Subject: Origins: He's just an old time tramp From: le cheffie Date: 06 Aug 08 - 05:10 PM This is a song (yes another one i picked up as a child that stuck) I know nothing about it but the chorus is something like "He's just an old time tramp his clothes are always damp he lives his life on the road People pass him by but they never turn an eye no body cares cos he's lonely and old" There is a line about the tramp being a soldier in dunkirk and being give medals but no work. I would love to know more about this song Regards Nick |

Subject: RE: Origins: He's just an old time tramp From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Aug 08 - 10:03 PM The 'old time tramp' died out at the end of the 1930s. Maybe that's why no one remembers. I tried googling around, but nothing turned up. |

Subject: RE: Origins: He's just an old time tramp From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 07 Aug 08 - 10:45 PM Yesterday I went down to church to garden, and two tramps came in to hang around. One was drunk, the other drunker. The first one repeatedly came up to us and apologized because his buddy was sitting in the edge of the bathtub shrine, right in front of Mary's statue. We kept saying, 'It doesn't bother us. Don't worry.' Ten minutes later, he'd be back, hanging on us and apologizing. Finally I said gently, 'It's all right. She doesn't care. She understands.' That was the thing that finally calmed him. Twenty minutes later, they left. |
