Seeing the Seven Old Ladies query revived (Again) I wonder if any one has any verses for the TOTALLY clean version !

I have :-

Oh Dear What can the matter be
??? Old ladies nattering happily
they weere at it from Monday to Saturday
And nobody knew they were there

The first to come in was old Mrs Humphrey
She sat down and made herself comfy
She revelled in Scandal and she let her tongue free
While nobody knew they were there

The next to come in was Old Mrs Porter
Her favourite topic was stopping her daughter
From letting the wrong man lead her to the altar
While nobody knew they were there

O

Somewhere I have this on an English LP, circa 1960. I may even be able to find it.

Hmm- Clean parodies of dirty songs? What is this world coming to? (Old hippies are now dropping antacid)

Dick, isn't the ultimate example of that "The Phony King of England," composed by Johnny Mercer for Disney's cartoon "Robin Hood" (1973)?

All right, Leadfingers, I found the album and forced myself to listen to the song.

The lyrics you remember differ only trivially from the recorded version. The number of old ladies in the chorus is "three."

Old lady number three:

The third lady's name was Elizabeth Spender,
Who knew all the scandal but liked to pretend ter
Not breathe a word except when the three met
And nobody knew they were there.

Bob Cort performs in Sinatra-swing style "with chorus and orchestra directed by Billy Munn" on Decca LK4301, "Eskimo Nell and Other Barrack Room Ballads."

You read that right.
