Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: GUEST,Xbox Date: 18 Aug 08 - 04:15 PM Donuel, have you noticed the extras in the crowd in the yellow tee shirts and hats ? they are people who stand about outside and get in free if an event isn't particularly well attended. A fake audience ! It sickens me to hear the British team spent 52 million on their cycling team, most of it Lottery money. When will we see the Lottery going to something like education or health instead of a handful of arseholes chasing medals and feeding their ego. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: Wesley S Date: 18 Aug 08 - 04:48 PM I'll have to verify this answer later but this is what one website online had to say: "Each medal must be at least 2.4 inches in diameter and 0.12 inches thick ..the gold medal is actually made of silver, but must be gilded with at least 6 grams (0.21 ounces) of pure gold" |
Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: Monique Date: 18 Aug 08 - 05:15 PM Composition of the medals of the Olympic Games from 1896 to 2002 They did it but they weren't first! |
Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: GUEST,crazyhorse Date: 18 Aug 08 - 05:27 PM Education and health are paid out of taxes - as they should be - when we start funding them through a lottery we will be in a sorry state. A small proportion already goes into health care; we shouldn't let politicians anywhere near the lottery money. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: PoppaGator Date: 18 Aug 08 - 05:52 PM The backs of all the Beijing 2008 medals are inlaid with a ring of jade. The gold medal has white jade (I think) and I can't even remember/picture the silver medal's component. I think it's kind of gray or off-white The bronze medal features the nice deep green that I've always associated with jade, and is by far the best-looking of the three when seen from the back side. Best-looking to me, anyway; I can clearly visualize it, whereas I can't conjure up an image of the silver medal's back side. |

Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: Donuel Date: 18 Aug 08 - 06:25 PM 52 million euros? thats sad but not as sad as 10 billion a month for Iraq boondoggles. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: GUEST,lox Date: 18 Aug 08 - 06:27 PM Muhammad Ali wrote in his autobiographhy how on his return to the USA after winning gold at the olympics he was brought back down to earth when he was chased by white bikers in a motorbike race at the end of which he noticed that his medal, which they wanted to take from him, was fake. In disgust he threw it away. But even worse, he discovered that his world title belts were made of plastic. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Aug 08 - 07:01 PM Education and health should come out of taxes - but lottery money could be better spent on all kinds of far more useful and enjoyable things than chasing after Olympic medals. Including stuff to do with sport, though that would be pretty low on my list of priorities. |
Subject: RE: BS: Gold Medals are silver From: GUEST,lox Date: 18 Aug 08 - 07:33 PM well ... hmmm ... We need to be fit ... we need our kids to want to be fit ... they need to be inspired to get into sport ... you need heroes! |
