I enjoyed the video about three or four down on the left which covered Bush's alleged plagiarism of Obamas foreign policy ideas.

JayJay,

What is the connection between supporting Republicans and lack of basic math skills?

Lets take you silly assumption about 50,000 troops, which would be non combatants according to Obama's stated plan as accurate.

Lets say that he moves 50,000 to afghanistan instead of his stated 12,000.

The surge peak was 140,000, that leaves 40,000 troops who can stay home and rest and would not require a draft.

Realistic numbers 20,000 in Iraq total, 20,000 more in Afghanistan and the reserves and National guard come home and take care of business at home, leaving nearly 100,000 troops to rest.

On the other hand. He could get a serious increase in volunteers if he shows a serious attitude towards getting Bin Laden and a sane attitude toward Iraq.

The draft is not what will happen. In Vietnam they've already figured out the downside of having middle class and upper-middle class kids serving as enlisted people in the military.

What they will do in the future, for purposes of increasing numbers, is hire more "security" folks from contractors like Blackwater and use more and more of them in combat. That way they don't have to worry about a backlash in the states. The only people getting killed will be mercinaries and poor folks.

The Obama war plan is to stop fighting it. What part of that do you not understand?

It is unfortunate that the US became embroiled in Iraq. However, a troop withdrawal would I think precipitate attacks on the troops a la Saigon in 1973(?). Until there is a police force and army in place in Iraq--made up of Iraqis--sudden withdrawal would be tantamount to requesting lots more civilian deaths. IMO, anyway.

Riginslinger is correct, I believe; 'private' armies, mercenaries, etc. are the future of warfare in the twenty-first century. Paid for, of course, with tax revenues, drug money, etc. Mass distraction will replace mass mobilization. We'll all be watching 'Dancing with the Stars' (or something like that) while Blackwater-type paramilitary forces do the empire's dirty work.

The mercenaries are hideously expensive. I think their use will go way down under Obama.

Peace, the final attack on Saigon happened in April, 1975. By then, the only US troops left in Vietnam were the embassy security guards. Two of them were killed in the process of getting the civilians out.

Blackwater and its ilk are used primarily as security guards, "protecting" high-profile civilians and non-military convoys. They rarely, if ever, participate in actual military operations - that is left for the Army's $24,000/year soldiers, $35,000/year sergeants and $48,000/year lieutenants. Many of the contractor employees, BTW, are from third-world countries and don't get the rumored six-figure salaries.

You don't think he would be tempted to get involved in a place like Darfur, for instance, or Burma?

If they do Darfur, I think it will be tactical support for African or other international peace keepers.
