Mind you, mine's set to LOW the whole time, but if I'm recording music (e.g. sessions) that seems about right. For your interview the sound levels would be quite low so the HIGH setting would get you into a better range. You can always delete the bits you don't want afterwards, but a missed opportunity is a different matter! The H2 has two things that might help on that - one is Auto Record which lets you set a threshold and if the sound is below that it stops and above that it starts. The second is a Pre Record function where the machine will constantly store the input in standby mode and can then include sound for up to 2 seconds before you actually turn on recording. I'm sure other recorders have similar. |
