Sorry, correction...
"Gee (C) but it's great(C6) after staying(Cmaj7) out late(C6)
Walking(Cmaj7) my baby(C6) back home(C)"...etc.

Play Am in place of C6 and C (with open 2nd string) in place of Cmaj7

Hi visitor
If you play the song in C, an easy way is to play the standard C - C6 - Cmaj7 progression. You can fake this by playing C - Am - C (lift off your index finger and play C with the 2nd string open)

"Gee (C) but it's great(C6) after staying(Cmaj7) out late(Am)
Walking(Cmaj7) my baby(Am) back home(C)"...etc.

I picked this up from another chord site, so maybe give it a go? Looks the same as GUEST's above, but with the bridge added.

I remember this song as a child. I was questioning why someone was out so late with a baby in a pram.....

[G]Gee but it's [Em7]great after [Bm7]bein' out [Em7]late
[G] Walkin' my baby back [E7]home
[A7]Arm in arm [D7]over meadow and farm
Walkin' my baby back home[G]

We walk along harmonizing a song
Or I'm reciting a poem
One kiss then we continue again
Walkin' my baby back home

We [Bm7]stop for a while, she [F#7]gives me a smile
She [G]snuggles her head to my [Bm7]chest
We [D7]start in to pet and [A7]that's when I get
[D7]Her talcum all over my vest

Then after I kinda straighten my tie
She has to borrow my comb
One kiss then we continue again
Walkin' my baby back home

Hi RiB

It's been a busy week with very long days so not much time in the music room. (I live and work at a Uni Housing complex) I've got time tonight so I am going to have a crack at transposing it using your suggested chords.
These are the ones that I currently have. I tried them again briefly last night and it didn't sound too bad (for me anyway).
Walkin' my baby back home

G             Em7    Bm7          Em7
Gee but it's great after bein' out late
    G                                  E7
Walkin' my baby back home
    A7       D7
Arm in arm over meadow and farm
                      G
Walkin' my baby back home

Not sure where it goes after that....

I'll let you know how I go :-)

Many thanks

BS

Thanks Big RiB

Here in deepest darkest Western Australia the sun is well over the yard-arm. I'll play about with that tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.
Just tried to spend some time playing and singing, but too tired.....

Apreciate your time in helping me.

GUEST, Visitor,

On a quick look, it appears you could drop all of the chords one-half step and make it a much easier song to play. For example, Ebm7 becomes Dm7, Bb7 becomes A7 Fm7 becomes, Em7, etc. There are still some tricky onesDb6add9 becomes C6add9 and D9 becomes Db9. You might want to give it a try if this makes any sense to you.

John Hardly

Thanks mate. Hope you find time to help on this. I still get goosebumps singing the songs that me and Mam sang together all those years ago. I might not sound too brilliant......, but it doesn't matter if, in my mind at least, she is there beside me singing in harmony.

Ah!!!

Betsy

Have been an occasional visitor to Mudcat for a long time, but can't remember when I began to 'pop in', but it is not very often. Have started to think about retirement, but I love to play and sing. The guitar has always been an aid to singing and not the other way around. I can strum out the chords and I am told that I can put across a song, but my guitar work leaves a lot to be desired and with tired old hands it's not going to improve dramatically.

For example. I have begun to learn "Mr Tambourine Man' by the Byrds and I am quite pleased with the results so far, but can I pick out the simple little intro???? Not yet, but give me a month or two :-)
My life is pretty full so I try not to get involved in things that I know I won't follow up on.

I was involved in a Forum for a long time and the musical star that owned the site even wrote to me, but it was spoiled by people bitching and carrying on, so now I keep it at arms length.

Chords are great but the chord shapes - does he have 7 strings or am I missing something?

Shouldn't D9 be 5x455x or x5455x and not 5xx455x?

Help me out here!

If I get time I'll post my chords. I play a fairly simple version.

Thanks Peace, but I think it may be boyond my skill level. Unless something easier comes up I may have to file the song in the 'too hard' basket. Looks like something for finger picking and regrettably I never mastered that.

But truly, thanks for your help.

The late Tony Capstick used to sing,

Gee but it's great after raping your date,
Dragging the body back home.

Subject: Chord Req: 'Walkng my baby back home'
From: GUEST,Visitor

Hi

One of my favourite songs to sing, or just simply, one of my favourite songs, is 'They Don't Write Them Like That Anymore' by Pete Betts, who, along with Vin Garbutt, came to a party held at Midnight 2000, hosted by my Nephew Kenny. Pete and Vin sang it for me as I was visiting Kenny from Australia.

In that song Peter refers to 'Walking my baby back home'. I've tried to find chords for this old song and can only find some extremely difficult ones that my 65 year old hands can't quite get around.

Can anyone help me with simpler chords?

Incidentally, Kenny, in the song is the same Kenny that I am refering to.

Have to say, it was a supreme pleasure meeting Pete. A good bloke!

Bill
