Subject: BS: the modern TV news show... From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Sep 08 - 09:20 PM It's based on certain predictable and stereotypical things like... The "hairdo" white bread anchorman. The "hairdo" white bread anchorwoman. The token minority newsperson. Observe this delightful example of the modern TV news show in action: Heat Wave! |

One of them (don't remember which one) has about four or six of the anchors and other news people just standing around in a room talking to each other casually (about news stuff), the way people might at a party or something. It's pretty hokey. (I get the cultural references in that cartoon, like Quahog, for instance... I grew up where that show's supposed to take place. But those people don't sound like Rhode Islanders.) |

What I can't stand is all of the "sweet" smarmy women on CNN who, instead of reporting, have to add their little comments/op/eds to news stories. I wish the news in the US would do like the BBC and call them news "readers" and then go on to the "analysis" for more in-depth coverage and explanation, etc. |
