Subject: RE: BS: Closet Marxist Bush From: Bobert Date: 07 Sep 08 - 05:34 PM Well, look a little deeper and I think what we might be seein' is yet another stockholder bailout... I hope not but I don't put anything past these crooks... They bailed out the airlines and Bear Sterns to the tune of $55M combined so don't assume anything here... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Closet Marxist Bush From: GUEST,Don Firth (on my wife's computer) Date: 08 Sep 08 - 06:53 PM Fannie and Freddie dwell in a sort of capitalist ideal world. When they're making a profit, they're private companies and they keep the profits. When they run at a loss, they operate on socialist principles, and the taxpayers (thee and me) have to bail them out. Gee, I wish I could run my business that way! Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Closet Marxist Bush From: Richard Bridge Date: 08 Sep 08 - 09:11 PM I've tried to dig out some relevant and modern facts on the nationalisation thread. Do tell me if I've got it wrong as a matter of fact or law - don't bother arguing about whether Marxism works! |

Subject: RE: BS: Closet Marxist Bush From: GUEST,albert Date: 09 Sep 08 - 12:53 PM Marxism is a way of annalysing the world ..in order to change it! The stuff that Marx contributed in his lifetime to polical thought is fantastic..from ideas about alienation to the pinpointing of the working class as the agency of change. And he was not simply a thinker but an activist too and would have fitted in [not too comfortably ]with the global social justice movement today. albert |

Subject: RE: BS: Closet Marxist Bush From: GUEST,Uncle_DaveO Date: 09 Sep 08 - 02:12 PM Bobert, whatever else it is, it's not a bailout of the stockholders! Their interest in the companies, whatever was left of it, is placed the very last in line. In essence, if they ever get anything out of the companies, it will be an extremely small portion of their investment. The bondholders (Republic of China prominent among them) are another matter. They are left sittin' in the catbird seat. Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: BS: Closet Marxist Bush From: dick greenhaus Date: 10 Sep 08 - 12:12 PM Considering the amount of the debt (greater than the national debt of any country in the world except for the US), the government really had no choice. The real problem was the lack of regulation that enabled them to get into this godawful position. |
