Worth every one of the 8+ minutes, Craig nails them all, every issue, every stupid issue, and all of the candidates AND he gets right to the point about all of it, esp. voting. Every one should watch this, imo!

Wonder if Craig still does his "Bing Hitler" character?

I like the fact that he doesn't take sides here. This is the most common-sense speech I've heard during all the campaign.
Thank you, Craig Ferguson.

RS, that's what I thought, too!

Me, too, Alice, you're welcome. I have a hard time staying up late enough to watch his show, but I do love his way of putting things. I'm glad to see they post his monologues to youtube.

Yes, thanks for posting this Kat. I happened to catch this particular show and laughed out loud in several sections. He's by far, the funniest of all the 'late night guys'. Very original, a little naughty and very, very smart. There's a great sense of impish wickednesss that comes through. The rest of 'the guys' seem ham-fisted and obvious next to him. My wife is a very hard sell when it comes to comedians, entertainers, etc., but Craig Ferguson just kills her. Sometimes, I laugh at how hard she's laughing with him. He may be from Scotland, but I think he's a national treasure. Much like John Cleese(A Fish Called Wanda...one of the alltime best) he 'gets' slapstick yank humor while still doing the 'highbrow' BI style w/o seeming smug. Alotta brainpower. Love the show.

fixed it for ya

Thanks for posting this, kat. I especially like the fact that he was making serious points while being funny. The other late night hosts don't do that kind of ehing too well.

Would that it were true that which candidate you would like to have dinner with is not a germane question in the election.

However, it seems clear that it did in fact play a role in the 2000 election. Obviously, so did the Supreme Court. But many voters felt that Gore was somewhat unapproachable and full of himself--and that GWB was a person they'd enjoy having a beer with.

It's a revolting development, that that attitude seemed be significant to many of the sheep who voted for Bush--and that there are so many of them.

But the comfort level with a candidate seems to still be a factor.

Straw in the wind:    A Newsweek columnist, who says point blank she never could vote for McCain-Palin, because of Roe vs Wade, says nevertheless: "I'd rather crack open a Red Bull and sit down with her than with Barack Obama. Likability counts in electoral politics--especially for voters who are on the fence."

And McCain comes across as a likable guy too.

Obama has established that he is a serious guy, with serious solutions to problems. Maybe he needs to show more of a sense of humor-- or something else to connect with the voters who insist on having a beer with their president.

You can deny this--but at your peril.

There's nothing like the "lowest common denominator" factor in recent American elections to depress those who expect so much more. Either schools need to do a better job and make civics courses mandatory or they DO need a test before people should be allowed to vote.

But that would be illegal. Better for the republicans that voters be ignorant and swayed by personality and "likability" than candidates be intelligent and thoughtful, fully equipped with critical thinking skills to fix the mess that too many years of Bush and/or lack of consensus and a view on the greater good (instead of lining the pockets of rich individuals and corporations).

Much of the nation needs one huge dope slap. (I believe I've probably said that before at Mudcat).

P.S.--I also like Craig, when I can stay up late enough to watch him. I love his guilty impish grin and the way he walks up to the camera and taps it--his way of reaching out and tapping each viewer on the shoulder, keeping them personally in the joke. A natural gesture that works very well.

To the contrary.

But there is a Catch-22--to get this monologue, you have to be a thinking person to understand what he's saying, and even though it is in a comedy venue, it is from the brain and the heart.
