Subject: BS: US Election - Non-US viewpoints

After reading this open letter to America earlier today I thought it might be an idea to open the debate on the US election to the wider world. The reasons for this are simple: Everything the US does directly impacts upon us in a way we do not upon them, so there is a lot of media coverage of the election (at least here in the UK) and the campaigning for it.

So how does the rest of the world view the campaign and upcoming election?

From what I see of the political circus in the USA, it's all down to money.
So they get the president that has the best financial backing, rather then the president who has the best policies.
There doesn't appear to be much swing voting, with people apparently voting according to party affiliations, rather than a preferred candidate.
Still I'm happy to be set right on these views if I'm wrong.
Just find it all very puzzling and complicated, what with primaries, and electoral colleges, and the campaign apparently going on for about 4 years each time.

The only real change I expect will happen down at the U.S. border checkpoint office in Calais Maine .... the gigantic (and I mean BIG) picture of Bush will be replaced by a gigantic picture of either Obama or McCain.

The war will continue in Iraq for well over a year and the aggressive surge (of U.S. troops) in the Aghani will continue.
