Subject: Tune Req: Homer and Jethro Playing it Straight From: GUEST,Kudzuman Date: 16 Oct 08 - 03:20 PM Hi all, I know that there are lots of Homer and Jethro threads, but I'm looking for a couple of recordings that they made that are just straight playing with none of the humor injected. One was called "Playing it Straight". Any idea where I could find these? Kudzuman |

Both are on one CD back-to-back by BMG in Japan. Part number: BVCP-7467. Probably not exported to US by normal channels, but that is a guess. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Homer and Jethro Playing it Straight From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Oct 08 - 11:16 PM Here's the publication data for the two Homer & Jethro albums: "Playing It Straight," RCA Victor LP SP-2459, 1962. "It Ain't Necessarily Square, RCA Victor LP 3701, 1967. Also, Homer & Jethro teamed with Chet Atkins to perform under the name Nashville String Band. Their albums were: "The Nashville String Band," RCA LP, 1969. "Down Home," RCA Victor LP LSP 4363, 1970. "Strung Up," RCA LP LSP 4553, 1971. "Identified!," RCA LP LSP 4472, 1972. "The Bandit," RCA Victor LP LSP 4659, 1972. "World's Greatest Melodies," RCA LP LSP 4771, 1972. See Allmusic.com for track lists. I think these albums were also played "straight." Apparently they are out of print. That means you will probably be able to buy them only from used record dealers. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Homer and Jethro Playing it Straight From: Arkie Date: 24 Oct 08 - 12:04 AM Most TV appearances were the comic spoofs they were most noted for, but I did happen to see Homer and Jethro on one occasion where they played an instrumental straight. You could hardly call it straight thought. They were both first rate and I began to notice their instrumental work in their comedy songs as well. They were both good musicians. |
