"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Hallelujah!

That's part of the joy I feel- the recognition that the United States of America is growing up.

I have always subscribed to George III's maxim - "The Americans are not fit to govern themselves". :-)

But it looks like it's changing after all these years.

Sorry about the previous nonmessage. My computer did something strange.

I feel the same way as Ebbie and Guest,Ed. Having lived through the crest of the wave of the Civil Rights movement, I feel personally involved. I cried with joy and my chest swelled with pride when Obama won.

Now comes another hard thing to do: give us some relief from our numerous ongoing crises.

Yay! Obama won!

I never thought it would happen delighted to be wrong, the Republicans torpedoed by Bush and his henchemen, great news.

It is moving to know that we, who heard the dream articulated, also witnessed its fulfillment.

The tearful face of Rev J Jackson was a joy to behold. I found him overbearing and sometimes downright objectionable, but he was from a different generation of rights activists, and carries different baggage. Still, he was next to MLK when he was shot, so I can only imagine what must have gone through his mind last night...

I shared Jesse Jackson's emotions when I heard that wonderful speech in Chicago.
Credit too to John McCain who made a very dignified speech as well.
Discredit to those in his audience who booed Obama's selection.
There is the added benefit of the voting system apparently working well this tine around. No need for politically appointed judges to pronounce on the will of the people.
Congratulations to the USA.

John.

Normally I go to bed early on Election Day and wait to find out the next morning who won. I'm glad I didn't do that last night. Jason and I looked at each other after Obama's speech and I whispered to him: "We were part of this!"

Joan Baez and Bob Dylan sang at the podium in Washington on that same day in '63 when Martin Luther King gave that historic speech, and Joan marched with King on a number of other occasions. They must both feel wonderful today.

To me, the most impressive thing about the whe business is that Obama campaigned, not as a black candidate, but as a statesman.

But, him being part black makes it even better.

Not too sure about Dylan, LH, but I heard Joan on NPR today and she said that Obama was the first candidate she had ever endorsed...

I'm not sure that Dylan actually knows that an elction just took place...lol...
