I have a home network where I am able to share a printer between two computers, but only if I turn off Zone Alarm in both computers. Can't figure out where to tell ZA to allow this sharing. I'm running Windows XP and ZA 7.0.

Anyone have any advice?

Can you share files between the two computers? If not, then maybe you need to alter the 'Zones' in the 'Firewall' settings.

To do that properly you'll need to know the IP addresses for both computers - go to 'Start', 'Run' and type cmd, and press 'enter'. When the command prompt window opens, type pconfig and press enter.

Your computer's IP address is the first line under 'Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection', or words to that effect.

You then need to tell Zone Alarm on each PC that the other PC's IP address is 'trusted'.

Sorry - mistype above - it should say'ipconfig', not 'pconfig'... I think this keyboard is about to pop its clogs!!

Bernard, thank you! I added the ip address of one computer to the ZA trusted zone of the other computer which controls the shared printer, and it now works! I was under the impression that the ip address changed every time I booted the computer because of the type of ISP I used, but that is apparently not the case. Don't know where I got the idea that the ip addr was somehow randomized...

Thanks also for walking me through the steps to get to command mode, where I have not ventured in quite awhile.

We-e-e-ell, the IP address can change... but it normally 'sticks' unless some radical change occurs on your system.

At least you now know what to do if it happens!
