Subject: BS: send your message to pres-elect Obama From: Alice Date: 06 Nov 08 - 07:15 PM If you have an argument to make or a message to send, here's your chance. There is a link on this transition web site to send a message to the new Obama administration. http://www.change.gov/ Be prepared to see more interaction like this between American citizens and the White House, as the tools used in the grassroots campaign are carried over into the Obama administration. The internet, texting, etc., are going to be used more than ever before to keep lines of communication open with the electorate. |

Subject: RE: BS: send your message to pres-elect Obama From: Alice Date: 06 Nov 08 - 07:35 PM The link is under the heading Open Government: "It's Your America: Share Your Ideas The story of the campaign and this historic moment has been your story. Share your story and your ideas, and be part of bringing positive lasting change to this country." I just sent in my message about renewable energy and efficiency. I've been waiting over 30 years for a president who would be enlightened about energy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama wants your feedback From: Alice Date: 06 Nov 08 - 09:28 PM click on the tab there for America serves "When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream." The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation's challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama wants your feedback From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Nov 08 - 03:51 AM Shame I can't open it this morning - Limpit has homework to do for Citizenship, and her project is to find out about his win, how the people feel and how he got there. A large percentage (about half) her school are of African/Caribbean extration and the atmosphere is one of excitement and enthusiasm for politics that hasn't been seen in any of our own UK elections. I think Barak Obama would be surprised at the amount of support he has outside of his own country. I'm eagerly awaiting the outcome of the first meeting between Barak and Brown... I'd pay good money to be a fly on THAT wall! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama wants your feedback From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 07 Nov 08 - 04:51 AM From Alice: - "When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream." And talking of The Pursuit of Happyness, here's Chris Gardner, whose story was that film, talking about racism, in Chicago...and somehow, I expect that Chris shed more than a few tears the other night... Chris Gardner on racism that has affected him directly And don't get the wrong impression about this man, he gives away millions to charities. It would be great for Barack Obama to have Chris working alongside him, because he's another man who cares.. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obama wants your feedback From: GUEST,pattyClink Date: 11 Nov 08 - 09:24 PM I appreciate that they are working very hard to make some very good changes. But I didn't see a place on that site for genuine policy ideas. It looked a lot like "sign our guestbook, leave a photo and heartwarming story we can use in future P.R.". |
