They have another one with the cats as fighter jets. One of the weirdest damn things I've ever seen. On the one, the corporal cuddling thing is genius, but on the other? No wonder these dudes can't get dates.

Can't remember the link for it right now, but if you haven't seen Nora the piano playing cat you really should - on YouTube, put Nora and piano and cat into the search and you should find her. We're wondering if we can encourage Persia, but I've only got a small synth rather than a piano and I don't think it would work so well, without the vibrations through the wood.
So we're sticking to "Pawball", a game at which she's improving daily, and leaving music to a time when she's a bit older and a tad more tranquil!
She has, however, become an expert on the old Deconstructive Art. We're learning not to leave cardboard boxes within range ...

Anne, my friend's cat taught him to play "Peg" - it gave them at least an hour of exercise every morning.

Peg is played with Cat on one dining chair, person on another. Person tosses clothes peg to Cat, Cat bats it away & person goes & collects it & brings it back for cat to bat again & again & again & again ...

Peg kept this 19 year old cat active & healthy.

I play that game with a Q-tip.

Freddie deposited a dead mouse in my shoe last night. I picked up the shoe and dumped the contents into the trash. He then proceeded to dig in the other shoe wondering where the hell the mouse went. SIGH

Ah, now, Pawball is slightly more advanced than Peg. The main toy in Pawball is one of those scrunchy ball things made of mylar, or some metal foil and, we had thought, pretty indestructible. Persia has managed to leave bits of it all over the carpet, however, because when she catches it she will then rend it with her teeth. We have become aware that she's a stocky little mog not because of body fat but because of muscle ...my goodness, she's strong!

So in its purest form the rules of Pawball are: cat lies on her side, often in between the legs of the occasional tables (which are being tables at this point, for Les Barker's info!). We bowl the ball to her, and she either bats it back (and will score a goal if it goes under a sofa) or catches it and then sends it back (she has a good technique with her back legs). Repeat. Until cat develops an urgent need for a lengthy wash or walks away. She has a good sense of taking turns with this game and will make sure both of us are fully engaged in playing.

Variants include using a ball with a bell inside or any other toy you care to name. Most recent variant is that the starting position is behind the curtains at the window. We bowl (preferably the ball with the bell, but not necessarily) and, as if by magic, paws shoot out from under the curtain to react as above.

The pure game was developed with Persia's predecessor, Cleo, who even at the advanced age of 16 or so was a pretty mean shot and scored many goals. Persia has obviously decided to make the game her own by introducing new game positions, and she couldn't care less about the goals as long as we're giggling like idiots.

Ah, headless corpses in the garden shoes. I think that's more of a spectator sport.

Sull's getting up there in age too, but occasionally the door jambs offend in some way and he jets through the house to hop up and attack one. All I can think when he does that is Inspector Clouseau-- "I could keel you with a single karate chop!"

Pegon is a better game, I normally play this when I have a visitor who has not seen it before, goes like this:-
Ask visitor to give you a number from 10 - 30, I then put that number of pegs on the cat (fur only) he will stand there until I have finished & then take them all off!
He will stand there purring while I do it again! I get bored before he does.
