Well, I have finally achieved what I had come to think was not achievable on this forum. I started a new thread and it didn't get posted to by anyone but me. I posted to it twice. It finally fell off the bottom of the board and is no longer visible.

The amazing thing is, I started that thread in all seriousness because I thought the subject would interest a number of people here. It was a music thread. I went to a lot of trouble to provide information and documentation on it too. I must've spent a good 3/4 of an hour preparing that thread.

Nobody else posted to it. Nada.

So, I have finally done it...I have launched a thread that died without reaction or comment from anyone! Break out the champagne!!!!

I didn't think it was possible. But it is. Another great milestone has been reached in the history of mankind. ;-)

Stonewall Jackson is my 5th or 6th great uncle, on my mom's side.

Bought my honey Gods and Generals dvd for Christmas this year. Got him book last year. For an Englishman he sure is into American Civil War.

This is not at all uncommon with music threads. When they get interesting is when someone looks up that song to see if just maybe Mudcat has it, and bingo! There it is, with the wonderfully resourceful info; the discussion then continues from that point.

So LH, just think of it as a bank deposit-- the interest takes time to accrue.

You're far from being the first, not in the music section anyway. I count about 30 threads in the last 2 weeks that got no response to the first message.

I'm sure I've started several threads myself that got no response. Here are some examples:

Lyr Add: Sale of Stationery Ware...(Gavin Turnbull
Lyr Add: Wanted (Perry Como; Homer & Jethro)
Lyr Add: On a Slow Boat to China (and parody)
Lyr Add: In The Church of the Holy Undecided

It doesn't bother me, though; those lyrics will be there for someone to discover for a long time to come (I hope).

I once commented that there is no subject so boring or stupid but that someone will reply to it, but I only meant that to apply to the BS section. Anyway, someone proved me wrong within a week or so.

Indeed, threads that get no response are much rarer in the BS section. I count only 7 in the last 90 days. Their titles were:

BS: Phara Snail to pose nude
BS: Oy, McCainia!
BS: New stock market terms
BS: Air Canada flights for B.C. music camp
BS: Google public transit
BS: Regarding debate in general
BS: Green Economics

Although commendations and congratulations may be in order for LH, I do believe that my own record of making the last post in otherwise healthy and active threads quite likely is unbeatable.

As soon as Max releases the archive DVD of all of the mudcat threads, I intend to do a complete search to compile an accurate record.

I have the new Vista (see paragraph 6 and following) with its immense search capabilities, so finding the threads I've killed will be easy.

Until then, I'll proceed in the standard BS tradition of "I know that what I believe must be the whole and absolute truth."

I started one on Nov. 7 that I was sure would get a few responses. It was for the wonderful writer and critic John Leonard. I was surprised no one else posted, I'm sure he must have a few fans here at Mudcat from over the years.

You would probably recognize his voice from his television and radio work. NY Magazine link--he worked for them as one of his jobs, but was on CBS Sunday Morning and NPR's Fresh Air for many years.

It's quite easy to start a thread which produces no meaningful response. Simply post something which requires that somebody actually sing something or pick up an instrument. It's amazing, the lack of interest...
