And, of course, Jim Dixon is right. Mine came from 'Anything for Billy'. When I grocery shop I frequently stop in at the Salvation Army across the street and select a book to read during my lunch at the deli.

I've chosen some clunkers - some I didn't ever finish - but I've also found some gems. Larry McMurtry's book is one of them. I enjoyed the protagonist.

By the way, I wonder, has anyone actually read this book? I just picked it up at the local thrift shop because I remember my father having a copy -- usually a good sign. But every time I open the thing, my mind goes soft, my eyes glaze over and I find myself in sudden need of a nap.

Nor can I find any reviews or even the briefest of plot descriptions online. I did find evidence that a review was written and is on file at the University of Tulsa, but I'm not about to go to Oklahoma to verify that it actually exists. So, any info?

In Germany, art nouveau was called Jugendstil ("youth style"), after the journal Jugend 1896; other contemporary reviews reflecting the trend and its shaping influences were Pan (1895-1900), Beardsley's YELLOW BOOK (1894), and Ver Sacrum (1898), the organ of the Vienna Secession.


Most of the nearby books are dictionaries, thesarii, spelling guides, etc. but the Forth Edition of Benét's Reader's Encyclopedia can be relied on for robust sentences. That one is from the entry on art nouveau.
