I heard that Bush was going to resign and Dick Cheney would be the President. He would then appoint Condoleeza Rice as the First Black Woman Vice President. Then Cheney resigns and Condoleeza Rice becomes the First Black woman to become the President of the USA. Then she appoints Sarah Palin to become the first White woman to become the Vice President of the USA

They've got no more than about a month, now, to accomplish all those resignations and swearing-ins.

Think they can do it in time? To do so would require more competence than they shown in the prior 7 years and 11 months...

Well, P-Gator, all this stuff is gonna tie things up for some time to come and until it's cleaned up then Obama can't legally be sworn in so I reckon it'll be time for the next election before Obama actually gets sworn in...

The replacement Vice President cannot be appointed. The President nominates a replacement, who then must be confirmed by a majority vote of both houses of Congress. (Amendment 25)

Well, yes, I know we're all primates...technically speaking...but you have to remember that none of us are literally either black or white, yet we use those terms to describe ourselves, don't we? It's sort of like that.

I fact, that would make a more interesting scenario. Bush quits; Cheney becomes president; Cheney quits; Nancy Pelosi becomes president. Then she refuses to give it up, and there's a big fight before the former speaker and Barack Obama.

John, you're right. If both Bush and Cheney resigned before Congress confirmed a new VP nominee, Pelosi would succeed Cheney.   But only till Jan. 20, 2009.   


Still, that would dash both Hillary Clinton's and Caribou Barbie's hopes of being the first female US President.

Only if a new VP hasn't yet been confirmed as per the provisions of Amendment 25. For the Speaker to be elevated to the Presidency, both the President and Vice President would have to die, resign, or be incapacitated within a matter weeks, at most. Once the vacancy in the VP spot is filled, the Speaker goes back to being #3.
