Some people like to keep their tits and songbirds indoors in feeders for them outdoors to attract Great Tits and their friends to hang out in their back yards.

But I kind of like these motion-sensitive ones that burst forth in song and shake their tails as you move about the room:

Tits love to hang around in pairs and I believe we should support them in any way possible, particularly during these dark winter days.

My tits are doing well but are having a tough battle with the sparrows for food.

And they're racist. They've ignored the white sunflower seeds in their favourite feeder, and are emptying the other feeder of black sunflower seeds almost as fast as I can fill it.

I've swapped them over today.. wonder how long it will take them to notice.

Oddly enough, I've had a robin trying to imitate a humming bird at my feeder - robins being a bit big, he failed, but he was hovering for a whole 2 seconds!

Have a smallish hawk hanging out at the feeder on grandfolks farm. Makes for some interesting entertaining just outside the dining room window!

We have a family of tufted titmice hanging out near my porch for the past month. Our condo association will not let us put feeders or suet balls out, though.

Georgiansilver, I resemble that remark! I work in the Silicon Valley (where I'm a technical editor), and as a matter of fact I DO have a fake tit -- but only one, not a pair.

I keep it in my office; it's perched on the edge of my inbox, where it can get stimulated whenever one of my coworkers drops in a document for editing. As you might imagine, it's very excitable. Not to mention red (especially the pointy bit) and ever so perky and responsive.

(It's a Northern Cardinal, like the one on Jeannie's linked page.)

EBarnacle - if you think it would get past the censors - you can get feeding boxes that are made of clear perspex and stick to your window on big suckers. Fill it with seed and water and watch them come right up to your window! And if you think the landlord is watching, you can quickly whip it back in and pretend it's a hamster cage!

Well, Liz has already made most Mudcatters wise to "tits" threads *g* but we have a thread about real v. fake trees (Christmas, I presume), and in the same vein I think there's a valid issue where real v. fake (e.g., animated) birds are concerned.

It's lovely to have the real tits and other avian friends serenade you, but they won't do it on cue the way the "Breezy Singers" and those squeezy Audubon Society songbirds will.   I know my mom got a lot of comfort and cheering in the year following my dad's death by having her Breezy Singers chirp as she would walk about the house or by being able to elicit a cardinal's or thrush's song by giving the plush bird a little squeeze.   The idea of being able to evoke music just by squeezing a tit as you pass by? I'd think that would be a welcome one to many people.

We have lots of tufted titmice at certain times of the year, but I've yet to see a smooth and silky titmouse.

Now this one isn't a tit, but it has a lovely song to sing when you squeeze it: Brown Thrasher.   (Sounds kinky, but it's really a sweet bird.)
