What are your favorite shows? Do you think Iron Chef America is an improvement on the original? And why has Emeril been so thoroughly purged from the network as if he never existed, much less was their biggest star?

The Japanese version was better, in my opinion. The over-the-top enthusiasm, which in the U.S. is reserved for pro wrestling, always struck me as hilarious. And they always had ingredients usually not used in American cooking, which made it a little more intriguing.

No, I find it incredibly boring. I work with mostly women and the TV in the break room is always left on Food Network. Yuck.

'Mudge and I haven't actually "watched" TV since 1983. (Long story involving "Brideshead Revisited" and scheduling.)

When visiting my mother in Milwaukee (once a year for a few years out of the past 10), the majority of what I watched was the Food Network. I LOVED Emeril! (Kick it up a notch!)

Also saw a little bit while Tom was incarcerated at local hospitals over the past few years.

This past Sunday was locked into a Motel 6 room by a snowstorm and watched about 8 hours of the Food Network.

Love Triple D (Diners, something-or-other-starting-with-D, and Dives). Lots of fun, especially on a snowy day trapped away from home.

I can't see rearranging my life for it (or any other television) under any circumstances. Have no desire to actually WATCH the basic cable we have at home so our internet and phone service is cheaper. I enjoy seeing commercials (keep in mind that I've mostly been a graphic designer all my life) every once in awhile, but the repetition becomes painful in only a few hours -- even of the GOOD ads.

Got a couple good ideas from Sunday's experience -- maybe Tom (who does 99% of the cooking) or I will follow up on them sometime.

But, I guess, the point is, that the few times I watch TV, I turn to the Food Network. Other than that, my preference is towards movies. (And it's DVDs and VHS tapes that keeps our old television useful.)

I'm old fashioned -- I read.

I don't have cable yet, so if I watch the Food Network, it's because I'm staying in a motel. I'm fascinated by a lot of it, and some if it strikes me as boring - there was a show devoted solely to baking cakes. How much of that can you watch? Especially since there are books devoted to the same subject and you don't have to write down the ingredients - it's already in the book. The shows where they show you how everyday brand name foods are made are really good, and full of useless trivia - there are 230 noodles in a can of Campbells chicken noodle soup. There's a machine that weighs each can and sends it back if there are one more or less noodle. That kind of stuff interests me, although I can fully understand if others find it pointless.

We're fans of Alton Brown (Good Eats), but I haven't had cable for quite a few months now. That is one of the few things I actually miss about it.

I've seen some good stuff (in my limited experience) on Alton Brown. Rachal Ray can be pretty good, too.

I REALLY like "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" -- got some good ideas for some basic comfort foods. Would like to travel around and check out some of those places.

On Sunday watched one of those cake decorating competitions. Interesting. Very sculptural, but, ya know what? None of those cakes looked the least bit appetizing. Guess that's why, when they're doing them in real life, the guests actually EAT sheet cakes.

Emeril left to go to another cable network. Lady Hillary and I watch with some regularity. In addition to its content, we often use it as background when we are working.

Emeril's contract was not renewed and he went to a diferent network. It is common for a "purge" when a star moves on. Food Network will not promote another networks star. They would be foolish to do so.

I hate Iron Chef and all those "competition" shows that have become commonplace. Cooking should not be a competition in my opinion, it is something to do for pleasure.

I love Paula Dean and I love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.   Many of the shows have featured NJ locations that I know and love.   Rutt's Hut was prominent on episode.
