Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Lady of Spain From: Kaleea Date: 04 Jan 06 - 07:50 PM Seems like I recall a joke on TV years ago, when someone would play an instrument with the greatest expertise, then one person on the show would say something like wasn't that the greatest player & the comic would answer, "Yes, but can he play Lady of Spain." I seem to recall this happening on the show often. Or maybe it was on several shows? Does anyone remember what show & who the comic was? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Lady of Spain From: GUEST,aj Date: 04 Jan 06 - 01:56 PM i play the accordion and i don't get what the big problem is, its really cool, grandparents and old people love it, and they love you for playing... Lady of spain is annoying!!! |
Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 22 Apr 05 - 05:28 AM Song Challenge: Lady of Spam, I adore you! |
Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: catspaw49 Date: 22 Apr 05 - 12:53 AM I'd forgot this old jewel. Joe started this based on my favorite accordion joke and claimed as you see that he knew accordion players who did NOT know this song.......which is complete bullshit. Most accordion players know only two songs. One is "Lady of Spain" and the other one isn't. Spaw |

Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: paddymac Date: 23 May 04 - 10:54 PM My recollection from childhood is very similar to Susan's "Lady of Spain I adore you, Lift up your skirt I'll explore you" That might be the first "bawdy song" I ever learned. I don't remenmber ever hearing any verses however. |
Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: GUEST Date: 23 May 04 - 10:28 PM I see you know the "other" lyrics - Lady of Spain you old.... I've been trying to find the entire masterpiece for two years. Can you help? I'm at AAR@prodigy.net Thanks |

Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: Dave Bryant Date: 21 Mar 03 - 04:28 AM You know the same version as me Susan - ....Lift up your vest I'll do the rest. Lady of Spain I love you. |
Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Mar 03 - 02:36 AM I couldn't help myself. I found a MIDI and added it. I've come across too many accordion players who don't know this song. Seems to me the tradition is slipping, if that's allowed to happen. I grew up in Milwaukee, so this song is very important to me. In the cold winter months, this song helpes us thing of a warm, sunny place where the girls didn't wear babushkas. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: Rick Fielding Date: 24 Jun 99 - 12:47 AM My mother used to play "Lady of Spain" on her big 140 bass Dallape accordion. Other than that, I thought the world of her. rick |

Subject: RE: ADD: Lady of Spain From: Ewan McVicar Date: 23 Jun 99 - 05:11 AM This posting reminds me of the fairly recent dramatic adaptation of one of Scotland's classic novels of farming life - Sunset Song by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. In the story the 'sunset song' is Spanish Ladies, the shanty. However, the thicko thespians instead used the above song! There ought to be a bureau you can complain to about misuse of songs! |
