One of the best things about a new year for me, is the opportunity for reflection. This moment happens to be one of those times, where I realize I am profoundly grateful for so many things in my life, be they big or small.

At this particular moment, I'm thinking of the wonderful folks who frequent this site every day and the friendships that have evolved as a result - lifelong, dearly cherished friends as well as some who are only known by the personalities that emerge on the threads.

Or the rays of sun that are valiantly burning through the layers of clouds to illuminate this cold January day.

Or the means and ability to prepare a really good meal and share it with friends....

How about you? For what are you grateful on this 3rd day of 2009?

My friends and my health.

My plans for this year.

Being retired, when other poor folks are losing their jobs in this economic downturn.

As you say KT, Mudcat too.

KT,
A roof over my head and enough food and drink to share with good friends. My family is healthy and safe. My son still knows that his mother loves him. Life is simple but good.

So many things. For the simple thingss of life, definitely, but also for the life enhancers: music, friends both smooth and furry and white mountaintops rearing against the blue sky, the mountains themselves... For all the things that make one's heart lift.

In a word? Morgan

And, lots of others, but he's the one that comes first right now. Certain Mudcatters run a close second to him.:-)

My pain-free healthy body!!

My very tolerant husband right now. Grandchildren come a close second.

Friendships, both in the real world and those that have become friends here on the 'Cat, even if we haven't met in real life.

As Giok said, being retired when so many fear for their jobs.

biLL, like Ebbie, sending good wishes to you and your wife. Something like that sure makes everything else, pale, doesn't it?

Ebbie, "all the things that make one's heart lift"- yes, and like Bob said, there are so many.

Mary, sometimes for me, it's the simple things that I'm most deeply appreciative of.....

It's nice to think of kat & Jacqui's experience of grandparenting. I'll look forward to that someday.

music! that's a biggie!

Thanks guys.

This incident has been a biggie in Ann's, mine, our family's and close friend's lives ... it came as a shocker as Ann was in good health (eats well), good physical shape, and has a great outlook in life in general. The problem was all due to one faulty artery.

As we are in day 4 of 2009, needless to say I have been giving a lot of thought to life, and all the good things in it. All I can surmise is life is so fragile and I am surely thankful, and yes, I again say I am grateful.

Good thoughts to you and your wife biLL. May she have a speedy recovery.

I'm grateful for lots of things. I'm healthy, my pelvis is stable again which is great and allows to to move about pain free. My children are healthy and happy (and having a nap at the moment...the quiet is bliss!), I have a wonderful family, a great group of friends, a supportive and loving partner. I'm grateful for music, singing and my fiddles. I'm looking forward to this year and the plans we have made and the festivals we'll go to.

First of, KT, I'm sorry fir firin' ya' from my blues band.... And when I read yer initial post on this thread that sorry just doubled up on me... Sniff...

But, hey, it's a new year for me to screw up but yeah, I am filled with gratitude for...

...the many folks here that combine to make this joint a somewhat dysfuntional but caring community and for...

...the folks at Tweedsblues fir putting up with me for the last 7 years and...

...the folks at CigarBoxNation for sharing so much of their knowledge and talents and fir Les who has volunteered to make me a electrified diddley bow at cost and...

...for my beautiful and very patient wife, the P-Vine and for...

...The Lord who kicks my butt every day but also is the source of all the things I am greatfull and...

...for my employee, Jeff, who really does love to work and learns the first time thru...

...for Raggedy Dan for having the courage to start a smoke-free "open mic" in Luray which gives me an opportunity to perform between festival seasons without drunks and smoke and...

...for RabbiSol who I believ has made this ol' hillbilly an offer too good to turn down in producing/promoting a "Sidewalk Bob" (me) DVD in '09 and...

...for my kitties, my mom (bless ger heart), my friends everywhere and to all the Mudwomenz who I am crazy about and ya'll know who you are and lastly...

...for this thread...

Sniff...

Bobert

A week ago, the temperature went from 60 F to 20 F overnight. There was a tornado watch in effect that night. At 4 am, I was awakened by the shrieking of the weather radio, which warned that a line of storms with wind in excess of 80 mph was headed our way.

The storms went south of us, and while there was a lot of damage, there were no injuries.

Later that morning I wound up the cuckoo clock and thought how lucky I am to have a charming little kitchen, a nice house and a cuckoo clock, all safe and sound.

I am not chained to a concrete floor.

The world acts as if it owed me a living.

I still have one friend.

Many people are far worse than I am.

Leeneia, ain't it the truth? I often think about how grateful I am to have things like a stove, a washing machine, a firepace and heat!

Bobert, I'M grateful for the opportunity to have even BEEN in your band, no matter how short my blues career was. 'Twas an honor, really, and I'll cherish those 15 minutes forever.

BTW, Bobert, today, I was listening to some tunes I have stored on my Ipod and a funny sounding chuckle came out of it. Made me smile right out loud to recognize that ol' hillbilly guffaw of yours!

Well, where shall I start? the chance ,this past year, to visit and spend time with some of the warmest, nicest, friendliest people in the Univers, both here in the USA and visitors to the UK, many of them Mudcatters, and family also are much appreciated, I think anything else pales into insignificance by comparison.

"But now a great thing in the street
Seems any human nod,
Where shift in strange democracy
The million masks of God.

In youth I sought the golden flower
Hidden in wood or wold,
But I am come to autumn,
When all the leaves are gold.
G.K. Chesterton

Me, too, LH, but I will add a bit here and now.

A certain week, last summer, spent with the loveliest, most special friend...laughing, crying, sighing, caring, loving. I am blessed to have such friends and I am gratefull.

Ah, kat, indeed......   true friends are a blessing beyond description. Or, as I like to call them, "companions for the journey."

Friends and family. The friends here who welcomed me back. Making contact with friends and host family from an exchange experience after 38 years. Getting my pickup truck back on the road. And that I had 33 years with my husband. The 3rd would have been our 34th anniversary.
