Subject: Credit crunch for folkies From: breezy Date: 14 Jan 09 - 04:27 AM having seen [savers] rates fall I realise how expensive going out can be. This week in Redbourn there are 2 cracking gigs, one Thursday with Steve Tilston , great fella, and two days later on Saturday with the Skiffle Orchestra. for 2 persons this could be very expensive especially if you want to buy CDs, drinks ,raffle tickets and transportation. I would be concerned for folk clubs and performers alike Most of the patrons are in the 'later years' age group and will be watching the pennies. Longer term forecast, its going to be difficult and will singers/agents - spit- take this into consideration when negotiating fees? |

Subject: RE: Credit crunch for folkies From: Kampervan Date: 14 Jan 09 - 06:27 AM Well, tough as it may be, I guess I would try to get to the gigs that I was most interested in and cut back on the drinks first. Shock/horror! Probably won't please the landlords or venue organisers, but that's the way it goes. I've stopped buying CD's at gigs unless I'm really sure that I want a copy. I've bought loads in the past then got home and regretted it later. Raffle tickets - well, it helps clubs keep going, so I try to buy a few, but I guess the club would rather have you pay on the door and not buy raffle tickets than not turn up at all! We've all got to cut our cloth..... It can't last forever. |

Subject: RE: Credit crunch for folkies From: Bonzo3legs Date: 14 Jan 09 - 07:47 AM Singers/Agents ought to be finding ways of attracting younger folks who seem to have no shortage of money for places formerly known as discos and buying BMW cars!! |

Subject: RE: Credit crunch for folkies From: greg stephens Date: 14 Jan 09 - 07:51 AM I often work for a percentage against a guarantee, in which case the fee will presumably go down a bit but not too much hopefully. Small pay cuts all round always seem better than sacking a few to me(I mean in general, not folkies in particular), but apparently this does not make economic sense at a national level, so they say. |

Subject: RE: Credit crunch for folkies From: Leadfingers Date: 14 Jan 09 - 08:30 PM Corporate gigs are going to be affected far more than Non Profit folk Clubs ! Companies will be thinking twice about spending several grand giving the Staff a party for a while I fear . |
