Add Hilda Solis to the list caught in the tax web. Her husband paid off tax liens of many years standing yesterday. Her hearing has been postponed.

She, herself, has not been said to have been involved, as far as I know. I hope she isn't.

These revelations are amazingly distractive. Is there something going around in the air?

Oh, and I'm still waiting for Geithner to take one for the team.

I love to see Hilda Solis go down the tubes. She's really counter productive.

Hilda Solis?

You mean the one whose maximum qualified job description is "bun-warmer at the In-N-Out Burger in El Monte"?

Slighting the offspring of Italian and Mexican immigrants still, pdq? You wouldn't be prejudice, would you?

Let's see, can you claim what Ms Solis does as in recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2000?

No, thought not. I guess you all will go out kicking and screaming, won't you.

"...Ms Solis does as in recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2000?"

They give buffoons like Solis awards like this so they can kick them upstairs and use them to generate profits for them.

This from todays column by Jonah Goldberg

"As one leading Democrat put it: "Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter."

Per then Senator Tom Daschle, in 1998.

Sigh

And likely it's Obama's choice for head of the CIA too! Change? What a laugh.

After Daschle gets a free car and driver for years, this is hilarious:

Watch Video

Daschle's so good at health issues he made over $5 million the last two years peddling influence on behalf of several large companies, including a host in the health services field.

Sadly, on the eve of Daschle's confirmation hearings, the man who once wrote tax policy "discovered" he had failed to pay taxes for several years on a car and driver furnished by a "friend" who was also paying Daschle a million annually for his "expertise" on media matters.

Guess after all those years of being chauffeured around Washington for free Daschle forgot that the tax laws he wrote for the rest of us make free transportation services --like company cars -- taxable.

Ale,
"Rendition" is illegal, it doesn't need a law from Obama to pass to stop it, "Extreme Rendition" is a violation against the Geneva Conventions & those violations are someting that the last administration has the public so used to that they don't realize it's a crime & they think they need a new law to supersede the old one's so that they'll finally get enforced.

Oh & Ale, Obama already did move against torture?????

With or without Daschle, Obama seems to be right on trach with the health issues, as of today 4 million kids that weren't covered by health insurance will now be cover.

Daschle is now a "Red Herring", he's out! We can leave him alone except to maybe thank him for bringing & a few other for highlighting the issue of how it's so hard to navigate the IRS Tax Codes by even the ones who wrote the law that's cuz of the headlights now shinning on it that maybe now they'll be changed so that a commoner can understand then. Again, some of the changes that muddy them where done by yours truly in the past 8 yrs.

I'll have to admit my one disappointment is with who's now head of the CIA. Bad choice . While on the bright & positive side more's being done right now in 2 weeks than Bush had done in 2 terms. Oh, there was nothing done right in the last 2 terms & most of those here crying now are the same ones that were supporting those dark 2 terms & here we are having to correct the past fisrt so we can move foreward. Who would've ever thought it would come to this.

Barry

Barry

Not a red herring. A stinking putrid anchovy that we just picked out of the salad that Obama prepared for us. This after two long years of chanting "No More Anchovies!"

I feel a bit sorry for those sincere people like Barry who thought the election of Mr Obama a "Cosmic Event", but you Republicans have no right to sneer, your administration was indeed vile.

I think you should all give the "liberals" a bit of space to formulate an exit strategy....Ake

We could run a few through the place where I work. 4 million spread across 50 states is not that bad. Perhaps clinics could be open on Saturdays for a few hours. There are always people, nurses etc. who want to work part-time hours..or even reasonable hours..they run nurses through the most ridiculous schedules sometimes..works for some, others have to drop out because of family obligations etc.

I say it can be done in most places without undue duress. If not, we certainly should be training more nurses..shortage of nurse educators I know though. l mg

The Republicans ran on "family values" and found themselves hoisted on their own petard when caught in moral/sexual indescretions. The naive actually thought that "family values" mattered to the Republicans who ran on those issues and it took quite a while before those voters figured out that a politician is a politician -- the issues that politicians run on have next to no correlation to their personal beliefs and behavior.

Now the Democrats are getting their first lessons in the nature of their own politicians. They've naively allowed themselves to think for YEARS now that when their Democratic politicians were criticizing Republicans for greed and corruption, that the Democrats were not similarly engaged. Now we realize otherwise (if we were among those so deluded as to accept that the Democrats were less corrupted by power than were the Republicans)

I don't number myself "among those so deluded to accept that the Democrats were less corrupted by power than the Republicans", John. It seems there has always been evidence that sleaze is not exclusive to any one party.
Lincoln said, "You can't dip clear water from a muddy stream." and with that in my mind I find it a bit sad that Daschle got shot down for living the kind of life that a lot of Washington insiders aspire to after public service. He is a sleazeball but one who probably had the juice to effect some positive change in our pathetic health care system. When I go shopping for home protection I'd probably go with the rottweiller with a checkered past over the lhasa apso with the shiny coat.

Well, one thing is for sure and that is that the only way for partisanship to end inside the beltway would be to nuke Washington, D.C.... That would do it...

No, Ake, the Repubs aren't going to give the "liberals" (ha) any room... They are betting anf hoping that the stimulis package doesn't work... That's why they are insisting on a greater share of it to go to tax cuts for the rich and for businesses... Only the Voodoo Economists believe that that "trickle down" money will help stimulate anything... So the Repubs are trying to sneak a time bomb into the legislation...

The Tom Daschle thing??? Yeah, purdy messed up but not in the same league with the Repubs complete disrepect for the health of the econmy... I mean, they seem to be the only folks who want too see more unemployement, more foreclosures and more hunger in America???

Purdy messed up thinking on their part...

I mean, let's keep the Tom Daschle thing in some perspective here...

Sorry, but I just don't get this "only one man for the job" matra that I keep hearing. Each time one of these guys goes down we hear the same thing -- that person was singularly qualified for the job over the 300,000,000 other American possibilities. I have no reason to believe that Daschle is indispensible to the process -- nor that he's even the very most qualified.

Obama took on a job that makes the one Damacles had look easy. He inherited two wars, an economy on the brink of disaster, and a gang of republicans who are out to see to it that he fails.

The US Senate is an exclusive club whose main function is to do nothing. They don't want change because they have it made feeding from the public trough and knowing that it is all but impossible to unseat an incumbent senator. A Re-cumbent senator is more apt.
It's obvious to me that if Obama goes down the crapper, we go down with him.

I'm glad to be able to say that both of our Maine senators voted to back the president. Unlike so many of them, they have some clue of what will happen if they all do nothing. Hoover tried that from 1930 to 1932.
As FDR said, "The republicans tell us that this problem will cure itself in the long run, but, people don't eat in the long run."

Of course senators from Maine would be sensible -- Maine is tucked right into Canada (hahhah).
