Hi Vicky, thanks. I'll probably be speaking to Robert later this evening as he left a message on my phone. I've only seen Robert at a May festival in Conn. these past 2 yrs before that I believe I've only seen him a few times (maybe once in SF) since he left the Boston area maybe 25 yrs ago. He was well known & well respected here. Maybe you'll join Robert if he's heading for Conn. again this May. It would be nice to meet you & see Robert again & catch up.
Sorry that you caught some undeserved flack here.
Bob has my number or if you join mudcat you can privately PM me (If you go to the top right hand corner of this page there's a box that says 'quick links', in the drop down menue there's another box that says 'send a personal message' open that & then print in the mudcatter's name & send a message). I'm sure Bob has a list of places for you to go to for your dose of music but if not ask & we'll see about directing you to the right places.
Hopefully you've recieve better assistace with you guitar search?

If not maybe some here can make up for their rudness & be a bit more helpful.

Give Bob my congrats on his newly found & unexpected family (big grin)

Barry

This thread has upset me. I usually keep quiet but I feel I need to speak up. Less than 24 hours after Vicki posted there were already complaints and snide remarks that she hadn't responded, and she'd been accused of trolling, even though she'd given her real name (and even her cell phone number). Please can we be less quick to judge, and also remember that there may be reasons why people can't check in as often as some of us. They may only have access to a borrowed computer, or have to use the computer in the library, or be out of town, or any number of things. She has responded graciously and I'd like to welcome her to Mudcat. If I'd gotten the flack she got over her posting I'd never have checked back again.

Oh, and regarding Robert's brother Bliss. Yes, it is the same Bliss Rodriguez that was mentioned in the web link earlier....I just found out tonight that he had played with Jose Feliciano. He (Bliss)is a very humble cat, but very mighty and accomplished musician. I was honored to play him some in San Francisco.

Well, well, well...I actually tried to find this thread a couple of days ago and couldn't for some reason and now I see what a conundrum my simple request has caused. First of all I want apologize profusely to my dear housemate for 1. Spelling his name incorrectly 2. For causing him embarassment(although we have just had quite a hearty chuckle as he has just found about his thriving brood).

Kat, yes indeed you found my myspace site. Thanks for the nice compliment about my singing. I have sung professionally for over 30 years and yes, have sung folk music and indeed have accompanied myself on a guitar while doing so. The suggestion that I find a "jazz site" seemed a bit "snippy". I am a musician, period. I love all styles and have taught:jazz, blues, folk, country and rock. If you don't believe me, give Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco a call and ask about me...:) All I asked about was a guitar, was this such a controversial subject? Whew...get a life, people!

Thank you to all who kindly welcomed me and I hope to meet some of you soon at one of Dick and Susan's singing circles in March which I plan on attending. I promise if I sing I will not improvise :)

Note from Robert Rodriquez: 1.Since 2002, I have attended every Camp Harmony week and have been going for 7 years without missing one. 2.To "Open Mike" Please call me so we can renew acquaintances for with 350 people there in 2008, I do not recall our conversation. 212-862-3526 Evenings.3. To Susan, Dick, Barry, Finn and Joe Offer so much loving thanks for your friendship both as human beings and as fellow performers. 4. I gratefully thank Vicki Burns for being a housemate to be proud of, she has brought warmth and music into this house which has been without it for a good while. 5. To my family that I never knew anything about "Good Luck wherever you are!" And may the bird of paradise fly up your nose and stay there for all time."

i was wrong to suggest that the person was a film maker.
I was following the lead of a previous post.

it sounded like this was someone we would all know here,
and perhaps soon we will!

sorry if i have caused any road blocks to this guitar
acquisition thing.

we have not heard another peep out of vicky

i guess kat found her..and tried to find the others she mentioned, too

there are more questions than answers here, but i hope it gets sorted out.

once again, sorry if i assumed
(you know what that means...makes an ass out of you and me....)

anything here about incorrect identity of the people involved.

come back Vicky, Robert and Bliss and join us here!

and good luck with the guitar !!

Thank you, Susan, Dick and Joe for clarifying who he is. I did ask, but no one came back to tell us.

Welcome to the Mudcat, Vicki and Robert.

Robert Rodriquez (note spelling) is very well known in folk music circles on both coasts. Perhaps, Mudcatters, if you know nothing about a subject, it's better not to speculate. Open Mike, I believe Robert was at Camp Harmony the year you attended, although he misses a year now and then. When he has something to say at Mudcat, Robert has occasionally sent it to me for posting.
Please give Robert my regards, Vicki. Welcome to Mudcat, and please excuse the rudeness you received. You should make it to one of Dick's sings, and I'll bet you'll find help there. My son in Brooklyn is a punk musician, but may be able to help you out if the folk community doesn't come through. E-mail me if you want to know how to contact him.

I got a decent Yamaha through Musician's Friend for just under $100.
It's a pretty good guitar (much better than I expected)

Vicky- I apologize for what I consider to b the rude reception that you are receiving...Mudcatters aren't usually so touchy. Anyway, welcome aboard.

Do you have an idea as to what kind of guitar you're looking for? Classical? Folk? Jazz? Electric? There are a lot of inexpensive instruments out there, both used and new, that are quite presentable.

If you can make it to one of our sings, I may have one I can lend you.

I'm feeling negative myself, Zen. Vicky made a request, I offered a suggestion (pawn shops) and she can't be bothered to respond.

Many Mudcatters are kindly and wish to encourage music, but we get tired of people who ask for help and then pay no attention to the answers.

(There's a pawn shop a couple blocks from me, and there will be 10 - 20 guitars hanging from the rafters there, looking for an owner.)

There seems to be some negativity in response here to what seemed like a polite request.

Robert Rodriguez is a storyteller and singer in NYC. He is not yet on line, but will probably join mudcat in the near future. (There is a reason he is joining the computer age late.) No web site, but might be mentioned as performing at storytelling festivals.

It is a very common name. No, he is not married and has no children.

Vicki - you should join mudcat. Welcome. I look forward to meeting you at the sing.

the bay area she refers to is san francisco
perhaps a west coast cat knows of her...

i hope she finds what she is looking for

perhaps she should look on a jazz site not this folk one..

http://www.troublemakerstudios.com/if this is the same rodriguez

geesh here is what his kids are named
Rodriguez officially announced in April 2006 that he and his wife Elizabeth Avellán separated after 16 years of marriage. They have
five children: sons Rocket Valentin, Racer Maximilliano, Rebel Antonio, Rogue and daughter Rhiannon Elizabeth.

Rocket, Racer, Rebel, Rogue and Rhiannon ? give me a break....

all their initials are RR

I wondered, Barry! Do you have any links to the one she means? Curious she hasn't bothered to come back in and answer any questions, etc. I prefer a guest with better manners.:-)

Bliss Rodriguez?

If she means this Robert Rodriguez, I'd say he must be pretty cheap and she must be trolling or something? Who knows.

I suggest you try the pawn shops. Where I live, pawn shops get a lot of guitars. It may be true in New York as well.

Hi Muddycats,
I am a jazz vocalist and voice teacher who has just moved to NYC. I am in need of a cheap decent guitar for purchase or perhaps a long term loan...can anyone help me out? Thanks so much in advance. BTW, I am Robert Rodriguez's new housemate...a friend of his brother Bliss :)
