Heard a rumor he's sittin' on a rickety wooden porch somewheres in Florida, singing to the dolphins. I would hope that's true.

I found an LP of his with "The Dolphins" on it at the library a while back. I was thrilled!

Stephen Stills once said that his two favorite singers were Fred Neil and Tim Hardin..... I won't argue

Fred once told me after a disastrous guest set at the Cafe AuGoGo,
" A coffehouse performer is entitled to two things, one is respect, and the other is to do any goddamn thing thing he wants because he is where he is and the audience is where they is." I had to follow, all by my lonesome, a power ten piece rock group. Like I said, a disaster. Fred told me the next time I found myself in that situation I should just keep strumming until they settled down(the audience I mean).

Fed Neil was a real classic. One of the warmest voices that ever existed. I just wish he had recored more later in his life. As far as I know I have all of his recorded projects.

I heard Fred many times at the Gaslight Cafe in the early 60's. His voice made the room vibrate.

I guess he went where the sun keeps shining through the pouring rain. I seem to remember hearing he got involved with dolphin research down here in Florida.
His version of Elizabeth Cotten's "Shake Sugaree" is about as good as music gets, IMHO.

Fred died of cancer several years ago in his beloved Coco Beach or Coconut Grove as the song goes.

One of my all time favorites, too. He often sang with Vince Martin - there is a "double album CD" out with their Tear Down the Walls and Fred's Bleeker and Macdougal. Not through any doings by Fred, but Vince has been completely left out of the roylaties. You can find Vince on MYSPACE
