Subject: RE: Rhythm fiddle From: Sorcha Date: 12 Feb 09 - 03:16 PM Oh yes, I've done that. Pretend the back was a bodhran, strum like that and the standard right or left hand pizz. |
Subject: RE: Rhythm fiddle From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 12 Feb 09 - 10:10 AM I think it's delightful. There are already two fiddlers doing melody, so the third does something else. |
Subject: RE: Rhythm fiddle From: wysiwyg Date: 12 Feb 09 - 08:45 AM Oh, anytime there is a fiddle in a country band, it is likely to be playing rhythm when it is not being featured for a verse or chorus on lead. Hardi could tell you the name of that style of bowing. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Rhythm fiddle From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Feb 09 - 08:35 AM Looking around for more examples of strummed fiddle I came across this Traditional Fiddle Music of the Ozarks: "A couple of the tunes feature fiddle strumming or plucking - Arkansas Hop, played by Howe Teague has him strumming on the fiddle strings like a guitar, very unusual." (Here's a page with the late Howe Teague playing a version of Arkansas Traveller, but using a bow rather than strumming.) |
Subject: Rhythm fiddle... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Feb 09 - 08:45 PM Just came across this clip of some session Cajun, with one fiddle being played as a percussion instrument, and I thought I'd share it, and see what people had to say, Never seen it done quite this way, but it might be worth playing around with it. |
