It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
The HOT but wonderful Mudcat reunion at the Old Songs Festival ended for me with a trip to the emergency room for my husband Lindsay, who had a severe allergic reaction to something he ate. We spent several hours at the emergency room at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, but he was released with warnings to avoid peanuts from now on- which he's known all his life, but peanut oil crops up in unexpected places.
I want to thank Sandy and Caroline, Dick and Susan, bbc and Duane, Charlie Baum, and especially Bill Sables, for their love and concern and good wishes and prayers as I hurriedly broke camp to go stand by my man.
BTW, Lindsay felt well enough for a Whopper on our way home!
Loving and joyful wishes to all Mudcatters- you are as wonderful in person as you are on line!
Allison

Hi Allison......I'm sure glad everything has worked out for you both. The ER ain't NO WAY to end a festival. Karen and I send our best back to you and hope you BOTH stay well.

catspaw (Are you sure it was the peanut oil or all those goobers you were hangin' out with?)

My God, I'm glad he's fine, I hope he's not allergic to CATS like in Mudcats. Peanuts! Naw, had to be the Mudcats. ....

Bill Sables is safe in Yorktown & we are very relieved to hear that Lindsay is ok. Old Songs was *wonderful*! It was such fun to hang out at the Folk Legacy booth (Thanks, Sandy & Caroline!) & get to know fellow Mudcatters 3D. Need to check the info on the Get-away in Oct. & see if it is possible to meet more already-friends.

love,

bbc & Duane D.

My son, Colin, used to wind up in the ER when he was a kid and tried to eat peanut butter, usually at a friend's house when mom and dad weren't there to remind him not to!. He eventually outgrew the allergy. He is still careful, though.

It can be very scary, but fortunately antihistamines can usually take care of it. Sure glad to hear he is okay! Gotta watch those hidden ingredients.

Fare well,

katlaughing

I am very happy to hear he is OK. And I envy your chance to get together with 'Catters in the flesh. My now 7 year old baby (where the hell does the time go???) had a reaction to strawberries a few years ago at a family gathering. To put it mildly, it scared the hell out of me. Benadryl is always in the emergency kit now. She has only had one reaction since, but it is very scary.

Hope we see you in October at FSGW.

Mick

I'm glad to hear your husband's OK. I'm also glad you found the hospital despite my lame attempts at giving directions. (I don't know how I can drive somewhere every day for two months and not remember the way.)

It was a real pleasure to meet everyone. Animaterra, I wish I'd had more of a chance to chat. Meeting Mudcatters (both current and future) was as wonderful as I expected it to be.

Jeri, leaving your name out of my list above was completely unintentional- your help was fantastic and I also had been hoping for more chatting in person with you! Thanks for being another wonderful 'Catter!

Animaterra,

It was nice to meet you and Lindsay at Old Songs. I left in the afternoon and didn't know about your scare until I just read this thread. I'm glad to know that everything worked out ok and I look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Relief & Joy! Happy to hear Lindsay is okay now. It was wonderful chatting with everybody IRL (in real life) without the limitations of computers, and making music with everybody. I was trying to explain the mudcat gathering to others at the Old Song festival: a cybercommunity that's materialize in real life for the weekend. But Old Songs is a magical place. (I also hang out with the Old Songs Jewish Congregation, a community that emerges Brigadoon-like, for two religious events every year during the course of the weekend.) See you soon, I hope, in real life again, and, until then, on-line.

Glad to hear the good news, Allison. I wanted to write a note to you last night, but the discussion in the living room with Dave Para and Cathy Barton kept me away from the machine. Give Lindsay our best, and Maggie, too. It was a delight to see her again.

I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of the Mudcat Ring as they sang around the Folk-Legacy booth. A circle of blue t-shirts and happy faces! Great scene.

Okay, gang. The next official assembly will be at the Getaway in October. Leave the peanuts at home, but bring your voices and instruments. Informal gatherings (like at Folk-Legacy on July 31st) will happen in the interim. bbc: look for a personal note coming soon.

Sandy
