I'm mindful this AM (and making phone calls) of so many wonderful tools that have been given to me, that are absolutely essential to doing pretty much everything I am trying to do these days.

<> Shoes to "Guide my feet, while I run this race." My MIL gave me a pair of SAS shoes years ago. Maybe two. We bought a few more pairs. Cannot work without them, for long anyhow!

<> Notebook to take my wisdom portably into places I am now begged to go. It even burns CDs so I can leave prezzies behind. (Not music CDs-- data.) But it has lovely sound to entertain me with music, too. No Solitaire, LOL, so no time-wasting! :~)

<> A Sandisk flash key, ditto, that Hardi gave me for my birthday a few years ago. Don't tell him I lost it, but till it turns up there's the cheapie I picked up lat week. (When his turns up, I'll give the cheapie away with gift-files.)

<> Life lessons. Really oughtta write them down.... someday....

You? What do you rely upon, that came via gift?

~Susan

Jenn, my wife of 39 years, is the best gift I ever had or expect to have. I generally buy my own stuff.

Years ago my daughter, Debra, gave me a Swiss army knife. Most useful tool ever.

Next to that, my battery powered drill/screwdriver.

The most useful practical tools I own are two screwdrivers, which have reversible shafts and at each end of the shaft, reversible tips.
Two screwdrivers, eight tips, two sizes each of square, pozidriv, phillips, and plain. Indispensible and tough.

I have a brace and bit that belonged to my grandfather, it is over a hundred years old and I still use it regularly. It goes everywhere and needs no power or batteries, it is silent, it does good work and it looks beautiful.

The iPod that Edmund gave me for Christmas in 2006. Without it, I could never stand more than 10 minutes on the elliptical trainer, and my lungs would be muskeg and my legs would be cooked noodles.

speaking of shoes... my Dansko shoes - the only kind I've found that keep the foot pain away. I could barely walk from pain until I found Danskos.
