Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Betsy Date: 10 Mar 09 - 02:15 PM Hi Katlaughing I don't know how find the song by Robson Green on that site - maybe someone has to load it up but there's a nice version by a German lad called Ralf. Jack, I understand what you're saying and have to agree to a large part, however , some nights going to folk clubs and the content of the songs I used to get confused whether we were hunting or saving the whale . Besides I do like a nice piece of cod to go with my chips and someone has /had to kill it. |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Jack Campin Date: 10 Mar 09 - 11:34 AM Work for a TV company - travel the world, see its most unique and beautiful animals and kill them. That shit makes Jeremy Clarkson look human. (I've got an "Extreme Fishing" bag which I got in a charity shop and use to carry my saxophone stand in. Until just now, I had no idea what it stood for). Whale sharks are listed as "Vulnerable" on the IUCN RedList of Threatened Species. People who have TVs actually *watch* this vicious garbage? |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: katlaughing Date: 10 Mar 09 - 10:25 AM Thanks, Betsy! Folks, with Pete's kind permission, you may go to This Website and click on the link to hear a bit of the song which was used on the tv show. What a great song! Thanks, again, kat |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Betsy Date: 09 Mar 09 - 07:51 PM I've PM'd you Katlaughing. Thanks Linda ,Cliff, Trevor Leenia and Treeman - I meant to thankyou all in my message addressing Bluegrassman. |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: katlaughing Date: 09 Mar 09 - 07:38 PM Have just sussed out your website and listened to the short cut. Sounds like a great song; I'd love to hear more! Permission to post a link? (But, not if you want to preserve your *girlish* persona!**bg**) Tks! kat |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Betsy Date: 09 Mar 09 - 06:49 PM Cheers Bluegrassman, More like 14 Seconds. No I'm not a Geordie so neither is the song , but I live in N.E.England which is still not the same thing.Still – it was an experience, though where or why he learned it, and why he thought it was Geordie is unknown to me. I always reckon even if ANYONEtakes the time to learn one of your songs, it is the biggest complement anone can pay you. Thanks to everyone else in the thread, I know it's not such a BIG deal, but I'm still daft and parochial enough to have got a buzz about something of mine being on TV. |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Linda Kelly Date: 09 Mar 09 - 06:47 PM Saw it too well done! |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: treeman Date: 09 Mar 09 - 06:46 PM Pete is not a Geordie; he,s a Teesider. Used to hear that song sung by Skerne at the Red Lion in Trimdon many moons ago. "You don,t know what you,ve got till it,s gone." I wish I,d known that then, and I particularly wish there was a video of those wonderful times. Shame video wasn,t even in existence then. The landlady had a wonderful collection of water jugs and other pub crockery hanging from the rafters and when the singing was good, (99 times out of a 100) the crockery would ring. Magic nights with wonderful guests too numerous to list but Isaac Guillory was just one particular favourite. The resident band played some good old chorus songs which got me into singing with confidence, and eventually led me to playing guitar and writing my own songs. One of the band members, Edwin, had a daughter called Lyn, and I,ve never yet heard a better version of her "Tie a yellow handkerchief". I,ve met Pete; pleasant man, or as they say in France; champion! |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Bluegrassman Date: 09 Mar 09 - 05:50 PM Just watched it, good one Betsy, didn't know you were a Geordie though :), I`ll have a word with Robson about that. |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Trevor Thomas Date: 09 Mar 09 - 04:32 PM You wrote that song? Wow! It's one that I heard first at my local session about 20 years ago, performed by Patrick Walker, with the whole back room joining in. I remember it having quite the effect on me remembering the times when my own Dad brought 'loads of men' home from the pub. Pat still does it from time to time, and I always love it when he does. Double congratulations - one for getting a bit of TV exposure, but most of all for writing such a cracking song in the first place! |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: GUEST,Cliff Date: 09 Mar 09 - 07:28 AM Congrats 'Betsy'. Couldnt happen to a nicer chap! See ya, Cliff |
Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 08 Mar 09 - 09:23 AM It doesn't look like it, but under the make-up Robson Green is a 70-year-old spinster. Congratulations on having your song noticed, Betsy. |

Subject: RE: 30 seconds of Fame From: Betsy Date: 07 Mar 09 - 08:45 PM Yeh I'm a married, hetrosexual guy - the Mudcat name is a corruption of of my surname.Very similar background to our friend across the pond Joe. Having basked (and probably bored)in telling everyone about the song situation ,and I also sought advice about the Contract on Mudcat,I am now shitting myself in case the song,(the title "They Don't Write 'Em Like That Anymore")which he sings, is the one which I wrote, and not some recently registered title from some pop group or other. Oooooooooh the tension !!!! - fingers crossed - I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas - and I hope there's no cinders in my stocking. |
