Could somebody help me here, please.
I need to know how much $135,000 in 1910 would be worth now.
It's for a presentation I'm giving about the Johnson-Jeffries fight on July 4th of that year.
Thank you

Prices
1910

At Thornburg's children's underwear is 20 cents each, a man's shirt is 95 cents, a work shirt is 38 cents and a suit is $30. A five-room "cottage" at Seventh and L is $1,500.

Work it out.

Well... three (or more) ways to do it.... rate of inflation or rate of investment rate of real growth. Depends on how you wish to portray the results.

Figures don't lie... but... liars figure.

In 1928, a twenty dollar bill would buy you an ounce of gold.

$135,000 / 20 = 6750. OR, you could have bought 6750 ounces of gold.

At today's prices that would translate to about 6 1/2 million dollars; with gold near $900/oz.

So, who really knows. However, it's one heckuva lotta cash then and in my world, it's one heckuva lotta cash now.

2010   $ 59.32

Just read that our treasury has already increased the money supply by about 250%. Can't vouch for the accuracy of the source, and can't assume a linear relationship between money supply and inflation, but it sure is a source of worry.

As long as the Japanese & Chinese keep turning over their T-bills, nothing to worry about.
