Today on CNN
They discussed "POT".
I said this a while ago!

They removed my response to a query from Uncle Dave!

"3refs, you made one comment which I don't understand. It goes like this:
Or the oil companies (who started the whole thing to crush the hemp industry).
Based on what facts? And why would the oil companies want to crush the hemp industry.
I'm not attacking you. I just don't understand the reference, and hope you will explain what it's about."
Dave Oesterreich

This is what I think I said(and more)!

Perhaps I was a little over zealous in my attack of the oil companies! In reality, is was more likely Prohibition and the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Although the prohibitionists(of both) were probably backed by the oil companies(I paint oil companies and Toronto with the same brush)!
It must be noted, that 1 acre of hemp will produce 1000 gals of methanol in about 4 months. Hemp oil is considered the brightest oil for lighting. So why not eliminate the competition?
1 acre of hemp will also produce as much pulp fiber & cellulose as 4.1 acres of trees, so the huge lumber companies must have had their lobbyists too.
It can be used for anything that cotton is used for and lasts 10 times longer. You can eat it, heat with it, make your cloths out of it and build your house out of it!
The hemp plant uses the sun more efficiently than virtually any other plant on our planet. It can grow in almost any climate or soil condition.
In the U.S.A. alone, there was between 4000 and 6000 hemp plantations in the mid-1800's(mostly for rope and bags ). The Slaves who worked on hemp plantations were payed and could buy their freedom(but stayed anyways).
In all likelihood, it was the first plant modern man domesticated. Reference to hemp by the Chinese goes back 6000 years, and was one of the first "things" to be identified with a written symbol, it looks like a little house with squiggly lines under it! The Chinese had hybridized hemp to the point where the seeds were as big as peas. Ancient text from China recommends hemp for just about everything, from increasing a mother's milk to urinary problems!

And doesn't it say somewhere in some book "Ye shall make use of the HEMP"
I really could go on and on about the benefits of hemp, marijuana, grass, ma, ganja, dope or whatever else you want to call it. I won't give you anymore ammunition with regards to my sanity, so, I'll end with this! In all honesty, I believe in a short period of time, if we could convince the opponents to dig their heads out of their asses, we could turn this financial crises we are having around just by growing "DOPE". After you have picked yourself up off the floor and have stopped laughing, just for one minute, think of the possibilities. I've already told you a minuscule amount of it's vast uses. It would be so easy to develop an(another)industry for hemp! The use and need for petroleum based products would become virtually non-existent! The need for synthetic materials would become "a need" instead of a desire! Starvation could become a thing of the past! The devastation that the stripping of our forests has caused could quite possibly become something our great grand children could only see in old movies and pictures because of responsible tree farming.

Think of four things that are REALLY more important to our existence on this planet! Yes we need leaders, government, laws, science, health care professionals, technologists of all kinds and way down the list to the lonely labourer. Think of the "BILLIONS OF DOLLARS" alone that will be savedTY by eliminating prosecution! No more executions....What a by-product!
It's much easier to control something than it is to ban it!!!

TY.....TYVM

I have posted some of the same snips above in several threads. It was DuPont (trying to promote Nylon) and his mate J Edgar Hoover that had hemp criminalised.

Henry Ford used hemp to make a plastic for car manufacture. He took a sledge hammer to his test model and couldn't make a dent.

Consider how it would have effected the steel industry and oil to have cars made of lightweight plastic. Imagine the lives saved in accidents. These cars would have bounced rather than crunched. They probably would have lasted longer too.

"I paint oil companies and Toronto with the same brush"

So - are you saying that Toronto was responsible for Prohibition?

The Big Smoke?

That works on a few levels... even without the smoke.

Oh... sorry... Toronto (properly pronounced "Tronna") was known as "The Big Smoke" by the "Native Peoples".

I have no comment to post to this thread except for this comment on the thread saying I have no comment to post to this thread. I do NOT like Pol Pot and never have. The sonuvabitch should rot in hell for eternity. OK, maybe for just half of eternity which--since eternity never ends--would still be eternity. Hope that's clear.

That's an awfully rosy picture you paint 3refs, but although the industrial hemp plant has many wonderful uses, providing a high (or even just relief from physical distress) is not one of them. The Cannabis plant that is useful for fiber, oil, etc. does not produce appreciable amounts of THC. Many of the people lobbying for industrial hemp in hopes of easier THC access are apparently oblivious to this fact.

The plant is difficult to distinguish from the other Cannabis, so if you legalize one, the argument is that will be difficult to fight the other, thus the generalized ban in the U.S. continues. Presumably in the places where growing industrial hemp is legal (Wikipedia says, "every industrialized country in the world, excluding the United States") they have this figured out...

If the information about the Henry Ford experiment is accurate then there must surely be a niche for a modern day Delorean - a car 33% lighter and ten times stronger than a metal one - presumably capable of being reduced still further in weight - could surely make a dent in the market. The more so if it runs on a vegetable oil not subject to fuel duty.

I watched a program on CNBC last night call "Marijuana Inc".
a href="http://www.cnbc.com/id/28281668/">Marijuana Inc They spoke very little about the uses I mentioned . Their's was more or less about the recreational uses. The one undeniable fact they presented was the billions(BILLIONS)of dollars it generates for the economy in California, with the next largest "legal" industry generating only half!
I won't use the word "harmless" because it's not! But I'll gladly sit here and type out some horrors that have gone on in our schools, our local communities or in our own nations that would have been better served if we weren't spending countless billions of dollars busting people and ruining their lives because they like to smoke pot. We watched them do this 70 years ago with alcohol prohibition and today we say "that only makes sence, take it out of the hands of the criminals, and for the most part, that criminality goes away".
Some will say it's a "gateway" drug and it leads to harder drugs. If that's your stance, then you had better put coffee at the front of your list!

ps
I would much sooner shread my old car and smoke it, than send it to another country as scrap so they can make more cars, send them back and put me out of work!
