Oh, I just wondered if there was a way for you to get there more economically. The only Lansing I know of is in Michigan. But that doesn't mean there are no other Lansings. Visiting grandparents is important, so I hope you make it soon.

Margarita thank you for your thoughts, I might have a way, I think the Icelandair sometimes help with special cases, I am gonna talk to them very soon . If you look at the map of Kansas city and look up I think to the north , follow the little river you will see the name Lansing.

bless skarpi Iceland.

OK- I'm spending a "Family Week" in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Lots of traditional and contra dancing and music making into the wee hours (which seem to come much sooner with children).

Northern Iceland?? I'm sure that you addresed this at another time, but how receptive is Iceland to traditional music? I understand that you play Irish music (for dancing??).

Peace and Love

Lucius

Lucius In Iceland we have three band at the moment who play Irish trad.music. One is called Papar and are like pouges, play like them, another is called PKK and they play both trad, and other music as well, then it is my Band TAMÓRA we play only Irish music. In Iceland tradi, music is played in the Sept to november. Also in other time, but not so much.

What about Icelandic trad.music? we play it sometimes when we are asked to do that.We have lot off good songs in Iceland.

Bob Jovi, I went to north Carolina a few years ago and had a go at contra dancing. It was great fun though fairly intimidating for an English person!! No one told me about the "contra stare"which is where your partner looks fixedly into your eyes as you get spun round very fast. This is to help you both keep your balance. But until someone told me, I thought gosh these american chaps must really like me!! Anyway, I am going to Finland this year for a holiday. My dad lives there and he's getting married. Me and my Dad are going to sing an old song that he is going to teach me by the coppers and we are going to sing it together at the wedding party and frighten all the Finnish people. He lives outside of Helsinki in this wooden house he has just moved into. I haven't seen his new house yet. It's in the middle of the woods and looks really pretty from photos I have seen. Can't wait!! Emmie

Actually, Jack and I just spent a week in Vancouver British Columbia. It's a six hour drive from Vancouver Washington where we live. We stayed with Musicman and had a great time. He took us to some jams where he plays Irish music. He also took us sailing!

For being a big city, Vancouver B.C. sure has a small town feel to it. Then stopping by in Seattle on the way home I was reminded of San Francisco. Very Busy.

I want my next outing to be a cruise on the Lady Washington. She's a square rigged ship that does three hour tours (that's right, you guys, "a threeeee ho-ur tour!). It is one of my dreams to go sailing on a square rigger. The Lady Washington is not a large ship, but she'll fit the bill!

I'll be WORKING! Sacramento summers are miserably hot, so I might as well work.
Come October, I'll be RETIRED! At the tender age of 51.
I'm gonna grow up and be a genuine folk musician, just like my hero Bill D. I've been practicing the "Key of R" song.

I'll be working my rear end off in windy Wyoming! Might get down to the Lilith Fair in Denver in August, and MIGHT get to the "Mudstock FEstival" in Montana, if I can ever find out anything real about it, other than the fact that something might be happening up in Montana on the weekend of Aug. 14...

Later this month I'm going to northern Wisconsin to celebrate my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary!! I have figured it is now (almost) mathematically impossible for me to ever have one...

But I should get in a few good campfire sing-a-longs while I'm there.

I just came back from the Waterfront Blues Fest in portland -- Oregon, that is; it's an annual fundraiser for the Oregon Food bank, where I heard in rapid succesion: Geoff Muldauer, Jimmye Vaughn, Charlie Musselwhite, and Koko Taylor. I missed Friday and Saturday, but I heard it poured rain anyway.

Tell me it I should go in debt to catch Lilith Fair at the Gorge (George, Washington, that is) this Friday.

The last week of July we're visting friends in Montreal, going to Boston for a couple of days, then off to see another friend in N.Y. City and then heading to Yankee Lake, New York for a few days of pickin' and grinnin' with my American relatives. Looking forward to going to Boston, went last year but we were only there long enough to catch the Blues Jays play the Sox at Fenway. Hope to see much more of Historic Boston this time around. I really liked what I saw in my brief stay there.

I have been thinking about heading for Winfield, KS for the festival there in September. It isn't a well known festival but apparently there is a lot of playing there in the parking lots and in the campground. I actualy prefer that kind of festival rather than one in which people gather respectfully and wait to be entertained. I really do love handmade, homemade music.

I've never been to Winfield, but I have heard some great things about it. It is an important contest festival. Some of the greatest pickers you've never heard will show up and compete.

I made it to our most local festival (geographically speaking). The Live Oak Festival jsut occurred two weeks ago. Now I'm saving my pennies to go to Millpond in September. It is my favorite in that it is small and is in a great location. (Bishop, CA - the Eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada).

We are leaving this weekend on a three week tour of the Mormon history sites (Kirtland OH, Nauvoo, IL, & Palmyra, NY) and Washington DC. We'll be in DC (actually staying with my brother in Fredericksburg, VA) July 19-24 more or less. Let me know if there are any festivals going on in the area - especially living history type things with music, work songs, sea shanties, and of course any other folk music. Thanks in advance.

Would like to get back to Little Cayman if I can swing it. Great dive place. It's been 5 yrs. or so since I was there. Only 20-25 residents on the island then.

Steve L. Wave (and possibly stop in) as you pass by Montpelier on your way from Montreal to Boston. I have just spent half of my summer vacation at Adult Village Harmony Camp (gee, sounds a bit racy doesn't it) cooking for 45 voracious campers, singing and generally having a blast from 6 a.m. until midnight. Didn't think I still had it in me, and have NEVER had so much fun. There's a website for our fun and frolicking, and I'll post it at some point, probably without blue clicky things. For part two, it looks like I'll be up hovering around Toronto in late August/early September My husband's dong a recording at UWO, during which I'll probably get my city fix, then we head to a cottage on a lake somewhere with our Toronto buddies. I may try to arrange more folk sessions at Wallie MacNow's house to tide me over in the mean time.

Susan
