I'd like to spruce up our MySpace page, as many do, with a nice background photo from my collection, but I can't find any info on how to do this. Help appreciated.

Cheers,
Michael

I hope someone comes by and answers this. Background pictures defeated me when I was setting up a Myspace: I just gave up and went for basic in my Boat Band myspace.
I have always been very challenged in the technological department.

You'll find everything you need at Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 at www.strikefile.com/myspace.

It's pretty straightforward - but if you get stuck let me know!

It would help if the link worked! This one does (I hope!) -

Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4

www.strikefile.com/myspace

This gives you options to completely make-over your myspace page from background, text, tables & scroll bars.

See what I've done with it at: www.myspace.com/sedayne

I found Realeditor very easy to use.

I've found that the fancy backgrounds make the information very hard to read on many myspace pages. A colour is fine, but a pattern or photo seems too much.

I use images on my Myspace pages & they're as clear as you could wish for. Here's another:

SUNDOG

I like the Sundog one, except for the picture at the top.

Greg Stephens has a very valid point. too often people use a snazzy background becuase they think they look good being able to do it, but you can't bloody well read the important text in the foreground. Well said Greg.

If you are going to use an image as a background, it is a good idea to use an image editor to fade your image first so that the text stands out against the background.

You may be surprised just how much you do have to fade it.

Hi Kids: Threads like this are what make Mudcat great. Always seems to be a helping hand around. Thanks to all for contributing to this thread and I guess I'll have a whack at it myself.
I don't suspect much could go wrong, in the sense you seem to be able to delete whatever you've done should you, uh, fnerk up, and/or make a mistake. Not that anybody here has ever made a mistake.
At least planes will not fall out of the sky...I feel confident that my clicking around will be unable to penetrate the Pentagon's computer security or set off some small thermonuclear device in Pakistan...

OK, I went to Realeditor and tried to change the background. First I chose "Image" - and got the choice of a http box. Well, the image I want to use is not on the web, it's on my hard drive. Stumped already.

Then I tried to change the background color, and it told me to "copy the code, log into myspace and paste into the About Me section". I'll be damned if I can find an About Me section on MySpace. Stumped again!

WTF?

michaelr: You will find the "about me" section under your music player. It should read"about michaelr". That's where your editing will be done...

1/Go to Home section of your myspace page..
2/You will see "Edit/Safe Mode" in the upper left in the blue box near your default photo...
3/Click on "safe mode" in case you screw up. MySpace will show you your "editing section."
4/Enter your code in the appropriate place after you have clicked on the edit command, then after checking your work, post it.
5/If what you see is not what you intended, repeat the above and delete what you don't want.

You should be able to either upload or copy/paste the material you want to use from your hard drive...

Best of luck...Just keep repeating the mantra...I CAN do this...
bob

And remember, you have at your disposal, nearly every possible question you might have
at the bottom of your home page...See FAQ's & contact MySpace...

Michael, if you have an account with Flicker or Photobucket or similar you can upload the image there and use it.

Thanks Bob, that got me the colored background. But, you say: You should be able to either upload or copy/paste the material you want to use from your hard drive

How? Those boxes don't let me paste the photo.

michaelr: You have to now go to the "photo" section. They'll walk you through that. You might want to invest some time in that FAQ's section. EXPLORE what is right in front of you...bob

I guess I'm stupid. The FAQs say nothing about uploading a background image, as far as I can see. Neither does the Photos link. "Edit Profile" and "Customize Profile" send me to the same useless section. And why in f%#8&'s sake do I have to log in every time I click on anything??? Aaaarghh!

If the stupid thing can be customized, why don't they tell a normal person how to do it??

Be calm...Sometimes the searching alone can teach you things...You have Google, Clusty & other search engines.

I went through this with guitar. Wondering how the best guys could play those lead lines. John Hammond Jr. told me to "just keep trying to do it, and it will come"...I thought "that's a strange answer", but he was right.

With MySpace, you log in ONCE. You are doing something wrong...

Also try YouTube. Lots of tutorials there. Time to do the homework...

Be like a kid, keep pushing those buttons like the "Nintendo Generation," and you'll figure it out...
