The Flatley brothers were at one of the University Of Chicago Folk Festivals. Amazing.

Sinsull, when Nureyev had just defected, he was in a production of Borodin's Prince Igor at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. A friend gave me a ticket. He was in the Polovotsian Dances section of the opera, and when he leaped onto the stage from the left to begin, it was one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed.

Fantastic from the get-go - the keep-you-in-suspense-with-baritone-mellifluousness-voiced announcer and then come a prancing out......what creative genious.

Anybody know the name of the music they danced to? Haunting. Makes me want to jig after a keg.

I LOVED Stavros & son, both for their talent and for the poke at Flatley.

Many years ago, I saw Flatley at the Smithsonian Festival in Wash. DC. He was a youngster then, but already famous and amazing. They put him on stage with a pretty young woman, and they danced a routine where they did exactly the same steps, and she was amazing...as good, it seemed to ME as he was.
   But what caught my ear was the introduction....they announced:

"And now, **Michael Flatley**.... and Sharon, from Connecticut"

I'd bet that he told them not to use her full name.

Some newspaper reports refer to him as "Lagi". But this is not a name I recognise, I believe the tendency towards "g" is due to the Cypriot accent, it happens in other words too. Later in the clip Dad pronounces it more clearly.

I'd say there is a 10% chance I got it wrong and the lad is actually called "Lagi", but if so he is in for leg-pulls in Greece and Cyprus, as this sounds a little like "hares" and a little like "unleaven bread"...

I watched it on TV as it was broadcast and had a right old laugh at it. Though they did take the p*** out of Flatley's mannerisms, I thought they did the bits of Irish dancing for real and without mockery.

Another pure delight. When Susan Boyle was linked from Yahoo news, there was also a link for a toothless six year old sweetheart who did a stunning job with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"; she's probably on Youtube too. To me, this is running so far ahead of what little I've seen of "American Idol" winners "styling" their guts inside out that there's no comparison.

I couldn't make myself pay money to see "Lord of the Dance". When I hear the Sydney Carter song, I see a scene from an Easter Sunrise service in Chicago 30 years ago: the teenagers of the church dancing, leaping, twirling, singing, playing, down the center aisle, with tamborines or whatever any of them happened to play. "Dance, then, wherever you may be!" I can't stomach any pile of egotism appropriating that title for self-promotion.

I remember watching Flatley years ago doing competitive dance around the Chicago area. The comments always were that he was a brilliant dancer, but that it seemed it was about him and not the dance. That held true when the original Riverdance came about. The friction between himself and Jean Butler was due to the fact that he felt he should have star billing when Jean was every bit the dancer that he was, and just as big a star in the world of Irish dance. His ego was so big that he left the show and created Lord. I always felt like Lord of the Dance was about Flatley, and Riverdance was about the dance and the music, even if somewhat commercialized. Colin Dunne, in my estimation is every bit the dancer that Flatley is. I enjoy watching Flatley, but I am not ga-ga about him.

To the subject at hand. This father/son are just wonderful. And there is not one bit of mocking the Irish. Sure they take the piss on a pretentious Irish American, but they are, after all, only doing the things that Flatley does himself. And these are the self same things that cause many in his own community to hold their nose a bit. It was a joy to watch these two having fun together. What a great relationship they have. I wasn't offended in the least.

I am really enjoying the clips from Britain's Got Talent. What great fun, and now two great surprises in these lads and Susan Boyle.

They weren't mocking the Irish, just Mr. Flatley...and they were very funny and mocking themselves too. Lovely clip, George. Lovely father and son.

I actually happen to love Michael Flatley's dancing. I don't care if he's thought of as being a little on the egotistical side, as for me, when you have a talent that stupdendous, you can damn well be anything you want! :0)

On the 'Lord of the Dance' videos, it's really interesting to hear Michael talking about his childhood. He was born to dance. He had a mind that never turned off. As a little boy, at 4am he'd be up making incredibly detailed models out of matchsticks, always thinking, designing, planning...

When the rest of the cast of Lord of the Dance would go home exhausted, after yet another sold out performance, he'd stay behind, working out how to make the next day's performance EVEN better! He'd carry on dancing and dancing, thinking, planning again, over and over..and that carries on even when he's at home, in his head...thinking, thinking, thinking..

It's a brain pattern I see in so many deeply talented people, what gives us perfection, brilliance...

I thought it was wonderful how the audience reacted to them both though, and the judges too...Heck, they even brought a natural smile to Simon Cowell's face, who for once in his life actually looked really relaxed, enjoying himself immensely.

Great to see a Dad and his Son so very close. What a relationship they have! What **fun** they have!

It's time the Greeks took over the planet! ;0)
