I'm sorry I didn't see your post before I went away. I know some people do park up and sleep in vans but I don't know where. For future reference you could probably find somewhere up Station Hill. I've no idea about nearby touring campsites. I hope you found somewhere last weekend.

When we ran the music and song session in the Rose and Crown public bar many years ago we always had problems with the drummers. For some reason they always felt they had to stand in the door of the pub!

I suppose it's traditional to have the drum going. Do all the sides have their own, or is there just one that's passed from side to side?

It was great to be back in the Rosie, though, and the new landlord appeared to be thrilled with the Festival, so we should be assured of a warm welcome next year.

I hope everyone who came to the Spare Parts sessions enjoyed them as much as we did. We hope to be able to run the concertina part-playing sessions again as well next year, as quite a few people asked about them.

Another good festival, and some good sessions in the barn.
As usual you can play anything you like, as long as it can be played at a speed that fits in with the Morris drum outside.

Manitas,you obviously know your way around-for the benefit of those of us booked to play elsewhere this bank hol but might like to go to a few Chipp. sessions do you know of any lay-byes,car parks,touring campsites in staggering dist of the t/centre that will allow an overnight stop?

Friendly! I've been put up in half the pubs in the town centre. One landlord even lent us his house one year.

And - It has to be noted. The locals are the most friendly of any town that has a festival - that I have been to. Some were (thankfully were) unwelcoming to the point of being beligerant. (Lets just say they were more ditch than Red)

The location is beautiful. It's in the Cotswolds (England). There is a big camp and caravan site for those who buy season tickets, and other campsites roundabout (probably kept a closely guarded secret by those who come for the pub sessions so don't need a ticket). You need to drive a few miles for B&B unless you are lucky, or have a room booked from last year, but there are lots of nearby villages. Try this website

Check out the link provided by Valmai on 24 April. Chippenham is lots of festivals rolled into one, depending on whether you're interested in listening, watching, singing, dancing, playing, storytelling..... accommodation in the town may be difficult to find at such short notice, though.

Last year the Borough was called the Gladstone. The New Inn is the one next to the Old Road Tavern.

The Old Road Tavern host at least three session mid-day and evening, and on Sunday the Barn is full of french music &/or dancing (cosy too).

The Rose & Crown used to have English sessions but last year it was closed. The Borough Arms (as was - now called something else but you it still gets listed as such) opposite the cinema (as was) has a mid-day session, you can see it from the bus station looking towards the campsite (hidden). How helpful is that?

The Black Horse has music at times - particularly when the ceilidhs are on (mid-day).

And next door to the Old Road Tavern, Floss or someone will be having an evening session - the name of the pub escapes me , Volunteer, Fountain, er its in the Old Raod anyways.

If in doubt ask at information, you might spot a familiar colour.

I'm sure one of the Chippenham Folk Festival 2009
committee will comment more fully on this, but the Rose and Crown will be back in use this year and will house the excellent English tunes session every lunchtime in its back room, known as the Barn.

The Spare Parts Cooncertina Band (Bryan Creer, Suzanne Higgins and me) will be running some English tunes practice sessions for people to learn a few tunes, and also some concertina part-playing sessions to which we bring three-part arrangements of mainly traditional tunes. We post all the music on our website in advance as midis and dots and can also send it out.

You can find examples of the arrangements we took to the Gosport & Fareham Easter Festival on the Tunes page of our website. We'll be taking some new ones to Chippenham.

We haven't had the timetable yet so we aren't sure what we'll be doing when, but at least some of our sessions are likely to be in the Rose and Crown Barn immediately before the full English Session (with choice ofmushrooms, kippers, scrambled eggs and fried bread).
