Me phone rang a few moments ago.

A bloke said 'Can I 'ave a cheeseburger, mate?'

First response was telling him he'd the wrong number & putting the phone down.

On reflection, what should I have said?

You could have said "I don't see why not" and then put the phone down.

last night between midnight and 8am about i answered the phone about 300 times, each time it was somebody asking if i had a taxi.

"Cheeseburger" and "Taxi" are special code words. Hasn't anyone told you about those before? Did we leave you out of the loop?

You should have asked him what toppings he wanted on it. Relish? Mustard? Ketchup? Pickles? Tomato? After getting that straightened out, you ask if he wants fries and a drink. You clarify which drink he wants. You then get his address.

You then tell him, "Thank you very much, mate! It'll be there in 15 minutes or less, and if it's not, you get a second order free!"

Then ring off. ;-D

I work at a place where the main line is 7007. The main lines to the police deptartment are 7001-7006. We get quite a few 'I NEED AN OFFICER NOW!' Will you settle for pizza ma'm?

Our delivery line is 3181, the hospital line is 4181. 'I NEED AN AMBULANCE NOW!' Would you like a pizza while you wait?

Oh yes, they also ring the PD and hospital trying to order pizza. Some are a bit determined about it too. Refuse to believe that this IS the Police Department.....just keep trying to order pizza.

many years ago I was woken by a call - a heavily accented voice said would I accept a reverse charges call from Iran.

The question certainly woke me up, & very fearfully I said NO, at the same time the telephonist's equally heavily accented caller said No, wrong number (obviously he wasn't expecting a female Australian voice to answer!), & I hung up.

well, it was 1979 & the world was watching the hostage drama in Tehran ...

A few years ago I kept getting calls from an elderly sounding woman who asked for Karen.
I would tell her there was no Karen here and she must have dialled the wrong number, and she would say 'Well, what is Karen's number?'
