WOW!! I love his voice, playing and he is so versatile. I see he is originally from Cameroon; he sings one song in his native dialect and it is beautiful. Thanks for posting this. I will be listening to all of them and hope he does have a CD!

Sorry to disagree, however pleasant and accomplished this version of Trouble in Mind might be it doesn't in my humble opinion come anywhere near the playing and passion put into it by Big Bill Broonzy.

I believe I have found his listing at Purdue University, and I THINK his real name is Jean-Rene Ella-Menye. (At least, that's the only Jean-Rene I can find in the chemistry department.)

He also has a Facebook page as Jean-Rene Ella. I guess you've got to sign up to have full access, though. (I didn't.)

I can't find any information about him performing professionally, or about any CDs. I did find his name on several academic papers about organic chemistry, though!

Heya Hoot

I have by no means completed my search of Trouble in Mind versions. I just discovered this Jean Rene while looking for easy blues mandolin tuition on you tube. Loved the song then started searching other performers and I fell in love with his version out of the 6 or 7 I have listened to so far. Is there a Big Bill Broonzy version on the interwub for me to listen to?


Blues used to be something I liked going on in the background when I was doing something tedious like painting walls. Now I am in love and feel like I've wasted my life not paying proper attention to it.
