Dear Canadian Friends,

In an effort to help this lovely class of eager young learners, I sincerely hope you'll help by sending postcards as below:

The Great SK-1C Canadian Postcard Collection

April 30, 2009

Dear Friends,

You are getting this letter because you know Anne Crocker who is in our senior kindergarten/grade one class at Arran-Tara Elementary School. In our class we are learning about maps and we are trying to collect postcards from all across Canada. We are hoping to get some from every province and territory and our goal is to receive over 80 postcards. Will you please send a postcard to our class? If possible, send us a one that is about a place in Canada.

Here's what you need to tell us:

-      who you know in our class

-      where your postcard is from

-      something special about that place in Canada

This is one of those things that hits home for me. Getting mail was a real treat when I was a child. Letters from family, fancy catalogues, boys magazines, postcards from abroad. Maybe kids will learn not only geography, but the fine art of communication.
