Subject: Political Expenses UK From: Spot Date: 20 May 09 - 02:05 PM Hallo everybody... Have I missed something or has no-one thought fit to investigate/publicise the expense accounts of Brown, Cameron, Clegg,Bliar et al...? It seems to me they keeping a very tight lid on their situation. Surely they cannot be so squeaky clean as to be un investigable.... Are they doling out out "reforms" etc when they not fit themselves? What do you think? Regards to all.....Spot |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 20 May 09 - 02:13 PM There was mention of a claim for, I believe, GBP6000 by Brown, and I believe the only thing they got on Cameron was an 80 quid claim for phone calls, which he had ALREADY paid back on the grounds that they were claimed by mistake. Clegg is the most vociferous campaigner against the system, and has been for over two years, so, I would imagine HE is squeaky clean. All mention of Brown's claim stopped almost as soon as it was mad public. A case of "who you know"? Don T. |

Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Cath Date: 20 May 09 - 02:20 PM You might like to follow this link to find out the true story about Gordon Brown's claim for £6000 over two years. It's by his sister in law so it could be said that she's biased but it could also be said that it's true as she was the one sharing the cleaner. And it's in the Guardian so it must be true! http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/may/10/gordon-brown-cleaner-mps-expenses |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Grampus Date: 20 May 09 - 02:23 PM What has slagging politicians (of any creed) got to do with music? NOWT !!! Even I know they're ALL corrupt ! Grow up, and get back to the important thing. Music ! G. |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Spot Date: 20 May 09 - 02:32 PM Grampus To whom was your post addressed? I dont believe I slagged anyone off!!! I'm also a bit old for "growing up" as you put it and I think you may find that music is slightly less important than the current state of affairs in this country!! Please put this "below the line" - I'd have done it myself if I knew how to!! Regards to all...Spot |

Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Les in Chorlton Date: 20 May 09 - 02:33 PM I guess all the musicians who have ever been paid in cash and who have declared it all to the tax people will be the only ones posting on this thread then? I guess all the self-employed musicians who have a car and various bits of equipment, set against tax and used for work only, and never use said car and banjos for family purposes will also part of the people posting here? Cheers L in C |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Spot Date: 20 May 09 - 05:48 PM Jeddy... "Had me bum smacked" ????? WTF?? I don't understand your post. I presume you mean me but I'm at a complete loss as to what I've said wrong!!!! Please enlighten me... Les - fair comment...but you've obviously contributed to the black economy yourself as you are posting!! ;-) We aren't talking a few measly quid once a month here , you know... These geezers/esses appear to be claiming a damn sight more than a ruck of folks earn legitimately in years, myself included..... Cath... newspapers = true ...Oh please ;-) Regards to all...Spot |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 May 09 - 06:44 PM Cameron got found out making us pay £400 to have his Wisteria cut back - he paid it back, which implied that he thought he shouldn't have claimed it. But he only paid it back when it came out in the paper. Brown's payments to his cleaner appear to have been legitimate enough, within the spirit of the rules as well as the letter. |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 20 May 09 - 07:24 PM ""Brown's payments to his cleaner appear to have been legitimate enough, within the spirit of the rules as well as the letter."" Doesn't sound so legit to me if the taxpayer footed the bill for a cleaner who spent half her time working for the sister-in-law. Don T. |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 May 09 - 08:00 PM That'd be true if it was the case, but it wasn't. The arrangement was that the same cleaner cleaned the flat of both brothers, seven hours cleaning Gordon Brown's flat, and three hours cleaning his brothers. Gordon Brown claimed for the cost of the seven hours, passed the money to his brother, who topped it up to cover the three hours, and paid it to the cleaner. Basic expenses for running a second home in London for an MP from Scotland, with a home back there isn't in itself an abuse of the system - what's an abuse is milking that system to obtain unreasonable and excessive expenses, and to make huge profits on fiddles to do with property speculation. |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: Les in Chorlton Date: 22 May 09 - 12:07 PM "Les - fair comment...but you've obviously contributed to the black economy yourself as you are posting!! ;-)" Why obviously? "We aren't talking a few measly quid once a month here , you know... These geezers/esses appear to be claiming a damn sight more than a ruck of folks earn legitimately in years, myself included....." Probably true but perhaps because nobody ever throws much in the way of Folkies. L in C |
Subject: RE: Political Expenses UK From: jeddy Date: 22 May 09 - 06:24 PM i was talking about the fact that this post was upstairs at least i think that was this one wasn't it? when it should have started off down here in the cellar. i have my self been told off for not following the rules, applologised and been forgiven. that's all. sorry if it made no sense these things tend to sound better in my head and i am deluded into thinking that others will know what i mean |
