When I was in Milltown Malbay at the Willy Clancy festival last year, I came across a session of the 'McCarthy family' from Galway/Clare. It was a father playing the Uilleann pipes, his wife playing the concertina, and their daughter playing the fiddle. Does anyone know if this family have a CD out.

Yeah thats the family. The piper was Tommy Keane, so I assume the title should be the 'Keane family'. Has he a son that plays the uilleann pipes as well

I assumed you meant piper Tommy McCarthy. Tommy Keane and Jacquie have some CDs although not with the children.

Padraig is a very fine piper too.

The McCarthys are a wonderful exaple of what is happing in Ireland on the traditional music scene.
Tom snr. was a wonderful musician, pipes, concertina, whistle, fiddle.
He was a long time friend in London and a tragically short-time neighbour when we moved to Miltown Malbay ten years ago - he died a year after we moved here.
As Peter has said, his three daughters and one son all took up the music and became great musicians.
Now the grandchildren of all four families are taking up the music and are showing signs of becoming good musicians themselves.

Hear, hear! He was also a wonderful communicator & general, all round good person. He made himself known to me once in the late 80's in a regular session he used to play in at Holloway Rd, London (I forget the name of the pub) and this friendliness and accessibility to the music he was playing made a deep impression me (I once told this to his daughter, Bernadette, and I'm glad I did!)
