From memory this is mentioned in A.L. Lloyd's book Folk Song of England.

Subject: Lou Killen's version of The Blacksmith

On Louis Killen's "Sea Chanties" album, released in 1968, he recorded a version of The Blacksmith. His wording is consistent with the one sung by Mrs. Powell in 1909, that is listed in the Mudcat database; but the tune is vastly different. Does anyone have an idea where Louis got his version from?

I'm willing to bet he got it from Bert Lloyd, which is where much of his material comes from, but I'm not familiar with A.L. Lloyd's recordings. I'm interested in hearing another recording with the same tune.

Thanks in advance. :-)
