Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: Beer Date: 04 Jul 09 - 11:01 PM Seeing as this thread is drifting a bit away from Bugs, here is one GNU for our missing buddy whom I will be meeting in less than two weeks. Beer (adrien) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBMsPNI6EZE |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: SharonA Date: 05 Jul 09 - 03:04 AM Beer/Adrien: This thread wasn't intended to be all about Bugs Bunny to the exclusion of other cartoon characters, so it wasn't drifting at all until you showed up! "e.g." means "for example". Your Billy Connolly clip about colonoscopies doesn't belong here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: gnu Date: 05 Jul 09 - 06:03 AM SharonA... I agree about Bugs, but Beer is "correct" in his post. Ya just gotta know the "inside joke". Unfortunately, I can't explain it. Hope you are cool with that much. Great stuff! |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: SharonA Date: 05 Jul 09 - 09:35 AM Gnu: Yeah, so you're getting a colonoscopy. Join the club. Anything else we should know? You OK? |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: SharonA Date: 05 Jul 09 - 09:47 AM ...or is it your-and-Adrien's buddy who's getting the Connollyoscopy? I'm confused. Is he OK? |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: Fiolar Date: 06 Jul 09 - 08:45 AM One cartoon of Bugs shows him singing "I Dream Of Jeanie; She's a Light Brown Hare." Stephen Foster must be laughing his head off. |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: gnu Date: 06 Jul 09 - 08:55 AM Odd... I posted yesterday and it's gone... SharonA... everyone is fine. Unfortunately, I can't explain it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: SharonA Date: 06 Jul 09 - 10:41 AM Fair enough, gnu. Glad to hear that Beer's impending meeting doesn't involve a deathbed scene or anything like that. Back to the toons!! Tex Avery -- "Symphony in Slang" (1951) Not much here that's musical, aside from the title, except for the piano player. Still funny, though. Tex Avery -- "The Flea Circus" (1953?) |

Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 06 Jul 09 - 09:03 PM There were previous threads here on this theme, I even started one I think - but I can't find them at the moment. A good many such cartoons were out on DVD - I have many opf them - and many of the Warner Bros stuff has interlinking and crossreferencing indexed Wikipedia entries. |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: GUEST,robomatic Date: 06 Jul 09 - 10:26 PM There was one Merrie Melodies I'm trying to find, can't remember the title but it involved a baby elephant being used to carry logs in Africa or India. The baby elephant escapes to the United States and gets on the Yankees Team in NYC, and becomes a batboy. But the last line in the thing is the little one staring into the 'camera' and saying "batboy schmatboy, I'm still carrying logs!" Still lookin' haven't found. My mother found it hysterical. |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: GUEST,robomatic Date: 06 Jul 09 - 10:46 PM It's horrible quality and it's not too musical, except for the Mynah Bird which made several appearances in Merrie Melodies to the Fingal's Cave overture: Hobo Bobo |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: katlaughing Date: 07 Jul 09 - 12:00 AM Thanks, folks, this has been a lot of fun. Just what I needed tonight! Big Norman Voice, loved the orchestra one, esp. the tube-harp combo! Beer, you've got Scotland on the brain! Thanks for both of those, esp. the Billy Connolly. |

Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: Ross Campbell Date: 02 Aug 09 - 08:50 PM Loved the old Tom & Jerry cartoons. At Strathclydr University in the late sixties, the cartoons (not just T&Js) that were run at lunchtimes in the Student Union film theatre were generically known as "Freds", after Fred Quimby, producer of the T&J series. Always got a great crowd. You've already listed my favourite T&J cartoon - "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby?" - great stuff! Ross |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: ranger1 Date: 02 Aug 09 - 11:36 PM Gnu, thanks for this thread. My dad and I used to watch Bugs together. After he died, my step-mom held on to the Looney Toons DVDs that she'd given him for Christmas the year before he died and gave them to me last Christmas. |

Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Aug 09 - 01:27 AM That Woody Woodpecker clip up at the top is Portugese, not Italian. It translates to "Prick-wood - Barber of Seville" Some of them seem to have gone since they were posted. Copyright issues. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: gnu Date: 03 Aug 09 - 12:43 PM Alice... about two months ago, I bought a VHS/DVD combo because I can't find any VHS only around here. The only DVDs I have watched are from Mudcatters. |

Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: Dave the Gnome Date: 04 Aug 09 - 12:08 PM Surprised no-one has mantioned 'Fantasia' yet - Or did I miss it? If we include Disney films there mmust be hundreds! DeG |
Subject: RE: BS: Musical cartoons... eg Bugs Bunny From: fretless Date: 04 Aug 09 - 12:28 PM And if we're listing Fantasia, we've got to include the Italian animated film Allegro Non Troppo, which is loosely a parody of the Disney feature. The Bolero segement in Allegro Non Troppo is fantastic -- all of evolution in 16 minutes -- and the Sebelius segment a heart-breaker. |
