Anyone know if there is an anti-static spray or something which will work on a ceramic cook stove? We bought one, brand-new, a few years ago and it seems to just get worse and worse in attracting dust, lint, and pet hair. I know part of it comes from the evaporative cooler blower in the ceiling, but it is not even at the same end of the kitchen and it still happens in cooler weather when we've turned the cooler off. It doesn't seem to matter how often we wipe it down, it is covered almost immediately! It really does seem like a magnet for dirt and hair. Thanks for any ideas!

I suspect anything you sprayed on it would make it stink or get sticky after a while. Sounds like you need a Mr. Wizard type to tell you what the electrochemical process is that you're experiencing.

The Sharper Image has ion air filters that are supposed to attract dust and hair, and you stove seems to be doing that same thing. You're dealing with an electrical charge. You might look into either getting one of those air cleaners to draw dust and hair away from the stove, or research how they work and see if you can come up with any ideas for counter measures.

is it an electric one with a smooth cooking surface
(no metal burners?)

Yes, om, it's one of those smooth top one so you don't have to clean crud under a burner.:-) I'll look into endust. I did spray it with a static clean thing for clothes and it made no difference.:-) Likewise in the bathroom...the pedestal part of the sink is white and always attracting pet hair. I never used to have this problem and I have fewer pets than before!

SRS, ya know...might be we don't have an exhaust fan above the stove. This house is late40s/early 50s weird. I hadn't thought of it as an electrical charge, but that sure sounds right to me. It also doesn't help that the dryer is in that one long room, either. May have to find an air cleaner. Thanks.

Always vent your dryer to the outside world!

I suspect static and I'm sure I have seen antistatic cleaning cloths...

AIR CLEANER: researched by my health consultant. Check out size appropriate to your space. I have had this one (junior) 18 months. Works very well.

I cannot live in a home without an air cleaner in closed-window weather -(MCS).

There are dust cloths that are hyoallergenic - pick up dust rather than spread it around. May not be anti-static.

Richard, it is! It is old, though, so I know some of it leaks. We lived a very dry, dusty high desert climate, to there is always stuff in the air no matter.:-)

Thanks, too, to you, Dorothy, for the link and suggestion. We never close all of our windows. A swamp/evaporative cooler works better if there are windows open a slight bit to draw the cool air in from its blower. Sometimes, we will put an air conditioner on one room, usually the bedroom, and then we would close all of the windows in that room.

I know we need an air cleaner; cost will be a big factor. Thanks,again, folks!

You want to be careful what you put on a ceramic stove top...a lot of stuff will burn on and create a HORRID mess.
