Subject: Worlds of Trad Upload July 2009 From: Fred McCormick Date: 16 Jul 09 - 06:44 AM Hi folks, Just to let everyone know that the latest edition of Worlds of Trad Internet radio is now on-line and up and running and can be listened to for absolutely free at Worlds of Trad Player . Alternatively, or to bring up the station page, click on Station Page . Then click the yellow PLAY button. Then, if you press the green button to the right, you can set Worlds of Trad as a preset. That will save you having to search the next time you listen in. In this month's big bouncing beneficent bonanza, Big Momma Thornton, Bessie Jones, George Melly, and the Almanac Singers remind us of some of those good old traditional songs that got turned into pop songs – before they got turned into pop songs; Roy Harris and Ward H Forde sing of piracy on the high seas; Dock Reed, Vera Hall Ward, Jooya, Woody Guthrie and Bob Lewis stem the rising tide of Fascism; There's a hobo song from America and there's a hobo song from Scotland; The Stanley Brothers and Washington Philips visit Paul and Silas, and we revisit some of the good folks of the Bahamas, and some of those of those old Breton dance tunes, and some of those complimentary CDs which Andy Cohen, Carmel Gunning, Shira u'Tfila, The Downtrodden String Band, and Gerry O'Connor were good enough to pass on to us. And we say a fond farewell to Rita Keane, George Withers and Koko Taylor, all of whom passed away in the last month or so. All that and much, much more. Oh, and sorry to report, but those damned CIA adverts are still reappearing and don't look like going away. If, like me, you believe in a better and fairer world, that's devoid of superpowers and third world repression, or if they're just driving you nuts, press the GREY STOP button every time one comes up. Then count to 30 slowly, press the GREY PLAY button, and yours truly will be back on the air. Fred McCormick. Fredlive365@aol.com . July 2009 Playlist. Life Goes On. Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton. Subject: RE: Worlds of Trad Upload July 2009 From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Jul 09 - 12:53 PM I'm enjoying it, too. I didn't quite believe what you said abou the CIA, but an ad eventually came one. I didn't know they were advertising - maybe that's a mark of the Obama administration, that the Clandestine Service has to advertise nowadays. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Worlds of Trad Upload July 2009 From: Fred McCormick Date: 16 Jul 09 - 01:51 PM Joe. No, they were running before Obama took office. The buggar of it is that I phoned him personally and he promised he'd ban them as long as I voted for him. Well, I would have voted for him if I'd been an American citizen. |

Subject: RE: Worlds of Trad Upload July 2009 From: katlaughing Date: 16 Jul 09 - 02:00 PM It seems really bizarre to hear them actually advertise. Something I never would have thought we'd ever hear; joining them seemed as clandestine as being one of them. This has been a wonderful mix this time, Fred. Thanks, again! |

Subject: RE: Worlds of Trad Upload July 2009 From: Fred McCormick Date: 17 Jul 09 - 07:25 AM Following my caustic comments yesterday about CIA recruitment ads on Live365, I've just received the following email. It's headed, The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (D/CIA) 1400 Defense Pentagon, Washington DC 20301-1400 United States of America Direct cell:2063397298. Oh God, thinks I. Now I'm for it. I've upset the big cheese himself. I'll end up being waterboarded. I'll be being extraordinarily renditioned to every sordid little dictatorship in Europe and Asia. My mother warned me what would happen if I stood in one stress position too long. They're probably assembing a crack assassination squad right this very minute. Jeez. What those guys can do with a concoction of deadly nightshade and a sharpened umberella! No worries. It was just another Nigerian scam. |
