"About Recovery.gov

"The Board shall establish and maintain...a user-friendly, public-facing website to foster greater accountability and transparency in the use of covered funds. The website...shall be a portal or gateway to key information relating to the Act and provide connections to other government websites with related information." -- American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

In order to accomplish the mission set out in the Recovery Act, and provide information for the public to monitor the progress of the stimulus package, Recovery.gov features:
Weekly updates of the agencies' funding notifications and financial and activity reports
Map presenting state-by-state funding
Graphs charting the weekly progress of agencies's made available and paid-out funds
Map showing the recipients of funds and the resulting projects
Written reports on the agencies' plans for where and how they'll spend the funds
Information on Federal contracts, grants and loans
A map illustrating the estimates of jobs to be created or saved and links to job information sites
Links to State Recovery sites and other government Recovery sites
Tools for the public to report for waste, fraud and abuse of recovery funds
Oversight audits by the Inspectors General of each Agency "

Are you talking about the spending itself, or the spending on the tools to provide transparency? And anyway, what do either have to do with eating meat with milk?

Is this spending kosher? I dunno, Bruce. Can I have a cheeseburger and think about it?

Yes, I think it's worthwhile to publish Recovery Act actions on the Web, and spending money on the publishing is certainly justified. However, it's a bit tricky, because there's always the possibility of using such "publishing" as an opportunity to blow one's own horn. My Republican Congressman used to send out a lavish newsletter the August before every Congressional election. That's the only time we'd ever hear from him - that is, until the FBI started investigating him for taking brives from Abramoff.

Why start holding ourselves accountable now? Because, for a change, we have a responsible person serving as President of the United States.

Makes me proud to be an American, for a change.
