ah, perhaps you meant this band?
Strawberry Alarm Clock is a psychedelic rock/pop rock band from Los Angeles best known for their 1967 hit "Incense and Peppermints". ..

hey--maybe incense and peppermints would wake a person up...
or how about the smell of coffee...perhaps there is a fragrance
generator that does that...or an automatic coffee maker that
grinds beans and brews...smelling that by the bed might help..

i second that medical question..any chance there is a
sleeping disorder here? does she snore or pause in breathing?
www.mayoclinic.com/health/sleep-apnea/DS00148

many cell phones have alarm clocks that get louder and louder..
how about a dog that jumps up on the bed licking faces--that is
bound to arouse..in any case--the alarm needs to not be within
reach. i have set multiple alarms at times when i needed to get
up extra early.

John Muir solved this in a different way:
Muir was a mechanical genius as well—an inventor of barometers, hydrometers, table-saws, and assorted machines, including a much-celebrated device he called his "early-rising machine." Essentially a bed incorporating a clock and gear mechanism, the "early-rising machine". would turn and dump its occupant onto the floorboards at an appointed hour, thus guaranteeing that he or she would wake up. Muir was such a talented engineer, he earned a living in his youth by conducting time-and-motion studies for factory-owners, streamlining their industrial processes and increasing their profits. How different might history have been had the call of the wilderness not been so strong for Muir

A bucket of water can be quite effective.

Mine is quite old...at least 10 years. I believe it's a Zenith. The alarm gets progressively louder the longer you let it go off. And mine is also across the room so I have to get out of bed to even hit snooze.

Mine is a fairly old (nine-ten years) Timex "Nature Sounds" clock radio/alarm clock. One of the available alarm sounds is a chime that sounds like a church bell, rings in a seemingly random pattern, and gets progressively louder. The only alarm that I haven't been able to ingore. Unfortunately, there's that big, fat "snooze" button right on top, as well... Anyways, they make an updated version of it, so I'd recommend checking that out.

saul - has your wife's sleeping been investigated by a doctor or health professional? My local hospital has a Chest & Sleep Disorder Clinic.

Try the 'Shake Awake' - inexpensive but loud alarm, large LED display back lit for night viewing and best of all the whole thing vibrates. Put it under the pillow and it will vibrate you awake as its suitable for folk with a hearing loss.
See www.shakeawake.com (sorry don't know how to do blue clicky)

no matter what you get, put it out of reach! Snooze alarms are too easy.

I seem to remember a guy who had a mobile phone with a ring tone that started off as a whisper of "Telephone!" and gradually inreased in volume and irascibility until it was roaring out "TELEPHONE!" to wake the dead!

Regards

I thought this would be a thread about some old psychedelic rock band, perhaps one professing a progressive political position...

THIS ONE has a different tone for each day of the week. Not exactly what you are looking for...then there is

THIS which does the following: When the alarm goes off, the user can select to wake up to any combination of loud pulsating audio alarm, flashing lights, or shaking bed. The vibrator can produce steady or pulsating vibration pattern for maximum effectiveness.

And, you might want to try this place: CLICK HERE. Good luck!

My wife doesn't get up in the morning without 5 or 6 attempts by me to rouse her, and has missed several appointments because of sleep-related tardiness. She does have an alarm clock. But the regular note is fairly easy to get used to and ignore. I seem to recall somewhere in my memory that there was an alarm clock that varied in volume AND sound pattern, so that the victim could not easily adjust. Does anyone know of such a device? Half of my own morning energies are directed towards just getting her up. Thanks in advance.

Post your responses here, of course. Others Mudcatters may benefit. But sometimes I can't get to Mudcat very often. So I would appreciate an email at:
