Subject: BS: Tent Camping NYC area From: irishenglish Date: 18 Aug 09 - 12:49 PM Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some good and quiet tent camping sites in the NYC area? I know there are loads of state parks with tent sites, but here is my dilemma. My wife just wants to camp, so she's not so put off by the large campgrounds with RV hookups, etc. I on the other hand, would love a secluded campsite with some ammenities, but more geared to tent sites exclusively. Last couple of years we have been camping in some nice places, but the campgrounds themselves are overcrowded, noisy, sometimes dirty, and the spot where you are forced to pitch your tent is usually rock hard from being trampled on again, and again, either by vehicles or other campers. Maybe someplace with a short hike to a site, or someplace where your vehicle isn't right next to the car? Any help appreciated, as I am lost with the number of websites listing campgrounds, yet they are all very general. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tent Camping NYC area From: RangerSteve Date: 18 Aug 09 - 11:07 PM I worked for the New Jersey State Parks for 18years, and I'd recommend either Bulls Island or Voorhees State Park. They're both directly west of NYC off of Interstate 78 and not visited by the city crowd very often. I don't know their web address, but you can Google NJ State Parks. |
