I wonder if anybody can help with this. Its very sketchy.

From my memory I heard it by a harmony group or something like that.
I think they are Irish male singers.

Very sketchy on the lyrics, other than part of it is

Way down in the ?????
I rung the bell
Way down in the ?????
I rung the bell

The song is buzzing through my head and driving me crazy.

Can somebody help before thye take me away :-)

Leap of illogic:

My first thoughts were of the Corpus Christi Carol sung by the Voice Squad (Male, Irish and acapella)

"Down in yon forest there stands a hall,
The bells of Paradise I hear them ring;
It's covered all over with purple and pall
And I love my Lord Jesus above any thing."

Well, it had a bell and Irish guys...

It didn't sound more like "And off in the distance, there rang a bell, and off in the distance, there rang a bell, and it rang for the saints and the sinners as well, and off in the..." did it?

The lyrics as you wrote them sound very shantyesque, and that almost rings a... thingie with me.

David Francey (Canadian) wrote it. The title is 'Saints and Sinners'. I'll see if I can find more info on the group who sang it. Anybody want to guess it was Voice Squad?

I remember now

I heard it on the Cd from Claire Mann & Aaron Jones + some others. Called Saints and Sinners written by David Francey

Funnily enough a thread was done on it last year and I wouldn't have realised becuase I didn't know the title
