Subject: BS: Arthritis 'gadgets' From: gnu Date: 07 Sep 09 - 05:42 PM Sooo... Crappy Tire had a palm sander on sale. About $20. It was one of those "clothes iron" shape ones with the velcro pad on the bottom attached to a plastic "platform" held to the sander by screws. I unscrewed the bottom, attached a piece of 1/8" thick neoprene rubber gasket to the upper side and reinstalled it (to make sure the passive dust extraction didn't suck up any moisture). I put a piece of abrasive plastic pad on the rear half of the velcro pad. I put some CeramaBrite on my glass top stove and PRESTO... I can clean the stovetop without severe pain in my arthritic hands! It'll clean lots of other stuff too. So... whaddya got like that? Oh, yeah... if I ever get hold of that thar Artur Itis guy, I am gonna kick the livin... |

Subject: RE: BS: Arthritis 'gadgets' From: Gurney Date: 08 Sep 09 - 02:38 AM My mother used to put stuck bottle caps between the door-edge and the jamb (on the hinge side) close the door gently, and twist, sometimes standing on one leg so that she could use both hands on the bottle. Using the other foot on the door to apply pressure, of course. Later on she used a loop of string from the handle, just as efficient but less comical. It chews up the door edge and closer strip, but the damage makes it more effective. |

Subject: RE: BS: Arthritis 'gadgets' From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 08 Sep 09 - 02:55 AM today I used my bamboo-stick-with-attached-opened-paperclip to pick up something (light) that fell down behind the freezer! The stick was invented for occasions when the BBQ tongs couldn't reach stuff that fell into confined places. sandra |
